The Topo Designs Klettersack Backpack may look like it just stepped out of a Norman Rockwell painting, but we assure you it didn't—although, it was made right here in the good ol' US of A. The super durable 1000D cordura fabric will handle your daily hikes into the woods, and looks just as good on a mountain as it does in a cafe. The natural leather lash tabs add a vintage look, while the classic top-load entry keeps a few things handy at the top.

Don't come in with expectations for technical day packs. This is a simple, top loading, sturdy backpack. It looks sweet, fits my 15" laptop great, and carries comfortably. The design stands out. I love mine.

I like Topo Designs' ethos and the fact that their stuff is US-made made me want to get this backpack. I got the Ballistic Black - XPac color at a discount. Thought $169 might be a little too much for a bag like that, and I was right. The material looks really cheap. The fabric isn't canvas, so that might have something to do with it. It's almost like it's been purchased from wish.com for 2 bucks. Not the type of quality I expected from a US-made product... But, as I said previously, I think this drop in quality has a lot to do with the fabric that's used in this particular colorway. If you like carrying a 32 oz. nalgene bottle with you, this backpack will not be able to carry it in its side pockets. You can fit a 20 oz. Hydro Flask, at most. I can see how this bag might be useful as a work bag, but if you want a multi-use backpack for various activities, I cannot really recommend it.

Great casual bag for everyday use. It holds all of my daily office items including my 14 Inch laptop, moleskins, water bottle, lunch, you name it. Don't expect this to be a proper day hiker as it's really only suited for office/commuting/casual use. Get ready for everyone to give you compliments as you wear this around town

I love this backpack. Been using it for almost a year for just about everything. I’ve bought countless a number of packs for everyday use, always finding something wrong with each. This pack is amazing and would only change one thing. I love the design and look. Very retro. Everyone that sees it loves it and asks where I got it. I thought at first the buckle and draw string method of opening bags would be annoying compared to a zipper, but I actually prefer it now. The top loading is great for my use. I carry this on weekend trips wherever I go. Camping, Seattle, golf, the lake, work, the size is perfect for me. The compression straps are great for adjusting to how much gear you have, or holding a jacket. I’ve used some straps on the front to hold an extra pair of shoes. I pack a little light, and people often ask me how all my stuff fits, but it does. The top loading with the buckles allows me to over fill it if I need to, but rarely do. It fits perfectly under the seat for airplane rides. It is a little annoying getting my laptop out of the inner sleeve and the water bottle side pocket could be bigger. The side pocket won’t fit a nalgene or 32 oz hydroflask. It will fit a 27oz (I think that’s the right oz) insulated yeti which I currently use and it holds my size 10 rainbow flip flops as well. Can’t say enough about this pack. I used to look at backpacks every week to find a better one than my current. That stopped when I bought this. I have taken this pack hiking a couple times and it’s been decent. It is heavy and does make my back sweat quite a bit. If I had to choose, I’d take my osprey daypack over this any day I was hiking. But in a pinch, this works great.

This back pack is my favorite back pack I've ever had. It surprisingly fits a ton of stuff in it. I am a college student and use this for school and its fantastic. It also has super durable material. I highly recommend this pack!!!

Solid af. Fits my work laptop like a glove (15in Macbook Pro). The top pocket is awesome to put sunglasses and headphones in. Super convenient. The only thing I don't understand is how Topo markets this as a hiking bag but they don't make a rain cover for it.

The klettersack really surprised me I have used this as a town daypack and several overnight camps ( ultra-light tent and summer down bag ). It is remarkably comfortable to wear - the straps do not slip off my shoulders ( no sternum strap is needed ) and it's stable so the lack of hip belt not an issue. The negatives: The top pocket would benefit from a skirt to seal the top sides of the pack and stop the pull down straps compressing the pocket contents.

I got this as a gift for my boyfriend. It is a great do-everything pack. Stylish enough to use for work yet functional enough to use as a day pack or small weekend bag. The stitching and zippers seem super durable. Definitely the best all-around pack I have seen in a while.

I bought this in the X-Pac material for my girlfriend. I intended to get this for her during our travels and outdoor hikes but she ended up loving it so much that she is now using it for work as well! Great material all around, no messy zippers and sturdy side pockets for water bottles! Definitely would recommend this to friends and anyone looking for an all around quality backpack.

I have an admitted backpack problem in that I am constantly on the lookout for for the perfect combination of of form, function and quality. My search concluded with the Topo Design Klettersack. The quality is absolutely top notch across all materials. The zippers are especially nice - all you have to do is run the zipper across the top pocket to feel the quality. The retro mountaineer styling represent the modern outdoorsman vibe that is at home from Boulder to New York. The side cinches help keep everything in place both internally and externally (think water bottle). I could not recommend this backpack more highly.

First off, this thing just oozes cool. I have the leather accented one in Navy and it is a very very nice backpack. Constantly get compliments on this thing and the sizing is pretty excellent for a day bag or just a weekend backpack. The cons: I really wish it had some back support. I know that this isn't what it is meant for, but I feel like this is lacking in all of the Topo bags and is what could take them up a notch from a "city bag" to a truly "backpacking bag". Also, the side pockets do not fit a Nalgene bottle. Looking back, I think I would have purchased the Mountain Pack and I have the say that the leather is cool, but scuffs easily and I think overall it was unnecessary.

Overbuilt zipper on top pocket makes for east one hand entry. Interior laptop compartment keeps computer secure and upright in bag. Side cinches snug down so things don't slosh around even if the bag isn't fully loaded.

I replaced my Timbuk2 messenger bag for this Topo. Backcountry was the cheapest for the leather pocket and bottom version than ordering direct from Topo and BC has better selections than REI. The construction of the bag is excellent and material is excellent as well. To my surprise from my research is the pocket for the laptop has a pocket to hold your pen/pencils and other loose items. I have a Razer Blade 14 inch laptop very similar in size of a MBP and it fit well. I didn't use this for a weekend trip as it would have been a little bulky with close, laptop and misc items. Only downside of this bag is if you use the pockets for the water bottle holder, it will use up and occupy a space inside the bag itself so pretty much it's located outside of the bag, it still taking space inside the bag.

I'm on a plane every other week or so for work, and I was excited to get this bag as a companion for my travels. Many of my trips are just one or two nights, but I've found that this bag is often just the right size to be the only bag I need to bring with me. I can fit a change of clothes (or two, if in the warmer months), my laptop, toiletries (I also use the Topo Dopp Kit), my Aeropress (gotta have it, travel is no excuse to drink crappy hotel coffee) and any other small odds or ends that I might need. I also spend plenty of my weekends outdoors and this is adequate for hauling a cook kit, extra layers, hammock, or whatever else I need for a long day on the trail. Yes, you can get by with most any backpack, but the obvious allure of the Klettersack is not only its cool retro styling, but also its simplicity. I love the less-is-more design of the Klettersack. It feels like it will hold up for a long time, and I love its cross-over sensibility between work, travel, and trail. My only little dislike are the side pockets. They are functional for small/flat items, but fairly useless for most water 1L water bottles. They are fit flush to the sides of the backpack so squeezing a bottle into them really impedes upon the internal volume of the pack. They do however, fit a flask or a tallboy quite nicely ;^)

This is the first piece of gear I purchased from Topo Designs and it has made me a trusted friend of the company. I first purchased this as my daily computer pack with its padded laptop compartment and it has evolved into my carry-everything-anywhere-pack. The simple main compartment fits all the my daily essentials; jacket, snacks, books, hammock, water bottle and coffee thermos while the wide padded shoulder straps carry even heavy loads well. The two lid buckles are sturdy and work great when toping off the bag with a rolled up blanket or climbing rope. Two straps on both sides are perfect for quick access to my jacket, securing my Tenkara fishing rod and helping keep my climbing rope tight while on approach. This pack is equally suited for a chair in a coffee shop and the top of your favorite hike. It has rode shotgun in my van on every outing since I bought it.

This is my go to bag for day trips! I am not a gram counter when it comes to day trips so the weight of this bag was not an issue. This thing stays loaded with gear 24/7 and is my go to bag. It is a piece of gear that I do not have to worry about because it is built amazingly well. The bag is made out of 1000d cordura which will probably out last me. The bag also features some awesome YKK zippers that are huge! The water bottle pockets are a tad small and cannot fit a Nalgene bottles, but was really made for the Liberty bottles. Not only is this my go to bag for outdoor adventures, but it splits time as my office bag with my Topo Designs Mountain Bag. This is an amazing bag made in the USA by the fine people at Topo Designs!
