Bought this kayak rack to throw on my Honda CRV for my Hurricane Sojourn Kayak. This is a 14 foot kayak. The racks were so easy to install and as important, uninstall. Super easy to secure the kayaks to the rack, came with hooks and ropes to secure the front and back of the kayak to the tow hooks on my car. Drove over 200 miles and not once did the kayak move it feel like it wasn’t secured. Was easy to unload the kayak off the rack. Would highly recommend

Was able to squeeze two of these kayak carriers on my VW AllTrack with the assist from my AeroBlades. I've got more trust in this model's J-style design than some of the others that were available. We were able to figure out mounting them in the parking lot when we got them (and our recreational kayaks) and loading gets easier every time.

I took my two kayaks all the way from Park City, Utah to McCall, Idaho using these racks. They worked great. It does take some time to get everything tied down properly and my kayaks are kinda heavy so I need someone strong to help get them on top of the roof.

I've got a 2013 Subaru Outback (coming from the square bars on my 2005 Legacy Wagon) and notice that if you keep the Hull A Port on the car or when you travel with a kayak on, they can slide side to side while in motion. I can't seem to tighten these down enough to make them keep from moving. Just need to pull over once in a while to make sure the kayak is still sitting straight. I also have the older model of the H.A.P. and love it too, still a little slide on the new oval Outback bars. New for this model is that the two main straps are a little shorter than the old model. You don't need to tie the loose ends up any longer. Happy with that. Also there is just one clamp that holds the H.A.P. to the roof rack, not two like the old model. Allows you to take them on and off a lot quicker. All in all its a great product. It's just Subaru that doesn't have the perfect sized bar.

This is a great rack. Super sturdy and really easy to load the boats in. My uncle has two back to back and he loves them, Never a problem

I have a 12 foot old town Dirigo that I was using for this rack mount. I was using the foam mounts before, but needed room for my atlantis 18 and my kayak. This worked perfectly! I had room to open up the box lid and didn't notice much wind drag. I actually noticed less wind drag, than carrying the kayak horizontal on the foam mounts. The mount took about 15 minutes to mount on my crossbars and about 10 minutes to mount the kayak.

The J-Style of the Hull-A-Port is a solid design. I believe my carrier performance issues are driven by the combination of my Emotion Comet Kayak and the smooth padding on the botton of the J. My kayak continually slid down and when I tightened the straps too much I saw the hull start to flex. There is a sweet spot I have to find, a perfect balance.

This rack is easy to use and is easy on the hull. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that you can't lock it to your rack system. At $140, I'd hate to come back from the lake and have no way to take the kayak home. For reference, I had the Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL (tandem). While it will fit, its not very secure. I think the width at 34inches is too much for this carrier. My other kayak, at 29inches works fantastic.

I have these on both my 2002 VW passat and 2008 Nissan Titan. They work great . no issues lock down tight and no slippage. Had yakima hullraisers before these and had alot of slippage and movement just could not get them to lock in well on the yakima round bars, so switched to the THULE rack and kayak holders and now no woories

The Hullraiser racks are great! Two kayaks loaded and out the driveway in less than 10 minutes (and that's counting the time to carry the boats from the backyard!) The racks can be installed and uninstalled even more quickly- a key for me since I use my car to haul other things too. I bought a Yakima u-style kayak rack and didn't get as far as putting it on the car- it was too complicated and attached more permanently; very inconvenient. I like the closed short end on the bars of my older model better but the new one is okay. Would definitely recomment this product.

Once again, Thule creates a great product. My kayak (a 14' Perception) sits well, straps down securely and looks good atop my SUV. My thanks go to Backcountry.com for supplying a fair price, free shipping, and terrific customer service!

I waited until the morning I was going to pick up my kayak before taking the Thule Hull-a-port Kayak Carrier out of the box. I was stoked to find that installation required no tools!! It's all included in the box with a great directions page. The only tricky part is the bowline. If, like me, it's been a long time since you tied one of these (something about the rabbit hopping out of a hole and around a tree... ), just hop on YouTube. It will come back to you in about 3 minutes. The hardware is solid.
