The POC Obex Spin Helmet utilizes POC's Spin technology to decrease the amount of force to your head during impact. It works by allowing the helmet to move relative to your head, allowing rotational movement that reduces the amount of energy that could otherwise continue through your skull. Besides offering innovative impact protection, the Obex helmet is designed to be lightweight and fully featured for long, fun days on the snow.

This helmet is very well constructed and looks pretty good. As I understand it from talking to the Gearheads, the SPIN technology is also top of the line when it comes to concussion protection, perhaps even superior to MIPS. The helmet is very comfortable around the head, though the ear pieces are pretty tight - I think they do this in part to ensure that your ears stay warm. The odd part about this helmet is the audio compatibility: it's only compatible with POC brand audio, not 3rd party, such as Smith or Sweet Protection,, and the POC audio is difficult to find aftermarket. Not many places sell it (Backcountry does not, at least currently), it's expensive, and there's very little information about how it works on the POC website (for example, are there any controls for volume or power on the outside, like for other brands? Who knows?). I also can't find an aftermarket bluetooth audio. I'm not a fan of the proprietary audio, and I appreciate how most of the other helmet brands out there let you add your own audio. That said, if you are going to require proprietary audio, it should be easier to purchase. Were it not for this issue, I'd likely keep this helmet, but as is it's a no go for me. I don't ride with audio often, but the flexibility to have music on the lift is something I've become accustomed to.

I was a bit hesitant to give POC a try but after the first few days on snow I'm quite happy. The fit is very comfortable and supportive. The size adjustment wheel is a breeze to use and stays locked in place. I wear SMITH goggles (Vice) and they fit great, no gaps or complaints of exposure or cold spots. My head is right in the middle of the upper end of Small or lower end of Medium sizing. I went with the medium and wearing any size balaclava the fit is great! I'm curious if my head would actually fit in the size Small and if the foot print is smaller. The ear pads have a cut-out center so it's not pressed up against your ear all day which does make for super comfortable fit but I wonder if riding without a balaclava if they would keep your ears warm. The only down side with that design is because the pads create a pretty hard seal around the perimeter of the ear, pulling you face mask up/down is more challenging because the ear pads are pushed up more tightly against the head/jaw.

This helmet felt and looked great, fit my rather large head perfectly, and looked excellent in the purple color, but unfortunately it did not fit paired with the Spy Legacy goggles. The helmet came down a bit too much on my forehead, which was almost perfect since it was flush with the oversized goggles, but in fact it pushed down a fair bit on the goggles which created some mild pressure on my nose from the goggles foam. Too bad because it was close to perfect and the helmet looked great.

I was learning to ride switch this year and this was the helmet I chose to protect the noggin. I was able to get it to a nice tight fit using the boa tightening system. The vents made it so my head wasn't getting super hot. Then the main thing that I love about it is the amount of times it protected me. I caught my edge hard so many times and was only dazed.

We gave this as a gift, and have received some great feedback after use: "I have tried a few different helmets, including the Giro Zone MIPS and the Smith Vantage. I really liked the feel of both of them, but once I tried on the Obex, I knew it was the one. It is very light, and fits like a dream. The vents and fit adjustment system are very easy to use as well. I used to use the helmet with some Dragon goggles that worked well, but I finally upgraded to a pair of POC Orb Clarity goggles afterwards, and those fit even better. I would definitely recommend the Obex helmet!"

I used this while snowboarding in Park City, UT. It fit really well, I had the XS/S and it was perfect. I loved the dark pink color! I fell a couple times and it protected me well. I was wearing a thin balaclava underneath and it fit really well, my ears were never cold! Definitely recommend!

I've always been that dumb guy on the slopes that doesn't use helmets. Though that time as past. Recently was able to use this helmet and immediately caught my edge riding switch. Don't get me wrong, it did hurt but it would've been a lot worse if it wasn't the tech they have built in. The size was perfect and the ventilation was prismal. For sure am going to buy this helmet.

This helmet is super (suprisingly) comfy. I kind of feel that one of the marks of a good helmet vs a great helmet is that you don't think about the great helmet a single time while you're skiing, and that's exactly what this one is. Comfortable, sleek, and way nice looking this is the answer if you're in the market for a new helmet. I didn't end up needing it for a crash, but the spin technology was really comforting to have. I love that it repeatedly shears impacts, makes me feel safe!

POC touts the SPIN system as a significant improvement over MIPS and while I don't doubt it, this review mainly deals with fit and function. I found the Obex to fit my large head quite well while presenting a flattering low profile - something most helmets struggle with. Adjustments are easy to make and the vents allow enough airflow for all but the warmest days. The brim of the helmet did not integrate well with my oversize Julbo goggles, which were pressed down on top of my nose. My other gripe would be the buckle system. At this price point, I'd expect a better system like the mag-lock options on other performance helmets. All in all, POC makes a solid winter helmet with excellent safety features that could improve on a few minor details.

The phrase "fits like a glove" is not something I find myself wanting to use for a helmet review, but I can't think of a better descriptor for the Obex SPIN helmet. Lightweight, comfortable, and killer looks.

Ill be honest. This is the first helmet I've ever tried. I was that stupid skier out there riding without one for a while. I was worried going from no helmet to one, having a headache or something after the ride. But Its made super lightweight I forget Its there. Keeps my ears warm. I haven't overheated in it yet, but it was nice knowing I have sliding top vent if I do. Love the helmet! I am finding that push my self harder with it. So its enhancing my skiing skills really. haha

Got a chance to try the POC Obex spin on a recent ski trip. Impressed - great fit and ear flaps that don't feel obtrusive.

Feels light and fit is dialed. The helmet is warm with on-the-fly vent adjustability - good stuff! Otherwise, as expect.

This POC helmet doesn’t fit as round as most POC helmets, fitting a more average head shape. I barely feel like I’m wearing a helmet; it sits perfectly on my head. It also has great ear cut outs. Fits my head way better than smith and looks great.

This is a sweet little helmet that has nice ear cut-outs (unlike Smith's snow helmet offerings) that both keep your ears nice and toasty, as well let you have a normal conversation without resorting to yelling or saying 'what?' again and again.
