Behind every hard climb there's an aggressive pair of climbing shoes that helped with the first ascent, and Scarpa's Instinct has quite the pedigree of F.A.s. It's an aggressively downturned climbing shoe with a narrow toe, moderate asymmetry, and a women-specific heel to provide a precise performance and solid fit. Vibram's Grip 2 rubber enhances the sole's traction on rock and plastic. The upper is a stretchy microfiber with a Bi-Tension rand that maintains the shoe's aggressive downturn overtime.

These shoes are actually the Women's Instinct Lace-up and not the VS's pictured. The fit is about the same as the VS, but with more ability to adjust for comfort or performance. The heel is a little different, but the performance was great on a trip to Joshua Tree. I placed my heel on a small protrusion and the it didn't budge as moved I moved my hands to some small crimps. I wouldn't recommend these for smearing out of the box, but for aggressive overhanging climbs and small foot chips, it's a champ. My shoe sizes: Scarpa Instincts (VS, VSR, SR, and Women's VS) 39.5 Madrock Remora size 6.5 Unparallel Vim/Regulus 7.5
