I run in this down to below freezing during the day with no extra layers and feel pretty good and don't sweat too much running at about 40 degrees F or so. I ordered the men's sizes (I have a S, which is more my size, and M because I like the extra room). The women's sizes were way too form fitting for me. I would say size up regardless of gender. Great for staying warm, great for wicking sweat, and a great sweater to look casually chic under a flannel too. The small is the perfect size/moderate athletic fit "true to size" for me (see weight/height, afab person). The first time I ran in this, I wasn't paying attention to the temperature and was in shorts and just liner gloves at 15 degrees F plus windchill. It was still definitely way too cold, but I put the hood up and my hair didn't sweat at all, saved my ears and probably kept me from getting sick. The hood stays put, but the neck is a little annoying just because I like a little more room in the collar.

This base layer has been on me for over 500 miles on trails in all kinds of weather. Nothing could be better. It keeps me warm. Not hot. The built in hood goes high enough to cover my mouth and nose when I pass people ten feet away on the trail during this pandemic. It is easy to wash then I throw it over the back of a chair and it is dry by morning. This is the most used piece for my hikes and I plan on wearing it for my month long Grand Canyon trek with my son as it will be great for the chilly nights. I will get him a set too.

The capilene air tops/bottoms are amazing - warm, breathable, great for any activity. This has been replacing my IoMerino for everything from hiking, fishing, camping, etc. Great for layering and has proven to be very warm and very light. The largest complaint, this product shreds very quickly. I have gotten in the habit of wearing this layer next to skin and some sort of lightweight shirt over it to avoid any snags. Wash alone on gently as anything with a buckle, snap, button, etc. can cause havic - God help you if you ever get these around anything velcro or a hangnail... Overall, an amazing baselayer and I really love these pieces, but for the price and the way it catches, I can only give it 3 stars. All three pieces have substantial pulls, holes, etc. but I still love wearing the tops and bottoms. Just be really careful with it.

I love the no seams and the feel of the fabric. Wore it several times in cold weather hiking. It is warm and comfortable, seems to breath adequately. However it has developed a fuzzy frayed exterior around the hood. I don't like the way it now feels and am worried it may not last as long as my other Patagonia base layers. If you pull it up around your face it definitely feels ticklish and not pleasant as it did the first several days.

My brother is a Marathon runner who often has problems with seams and chafing as he gets into the upper miles! He loves this for winter runs as it's lack of seaming make this a non-issue. The material is soft, the waffle pattern holds in the heat with ease while training through the Michigan winters!

Was skeptical about how light it was but after wearing it skinning uphill as well as skiing in sub freezing temps at the resort, I can say...don’t be fooled by the weight. It’s super warm and dries quickly when you get sweaty. The hood is key but even when it’s down, it acts as a very nice neck warmer.

I have been using this base layer for all of my ski tours this season and it has been absolutely amazing. The hood makes for a great layer to keep my ears and head warm, and the front of the neck reaches up over my mouth if I need extra face protection. The design of this base layer is also great at keeping me at the perfect temp for whatever the weather is outside. I highly recommend the piece.

I bought this wanting a warm baselayer for skiing and thought the hood could serve as a balaclava. Sadly, I just guessed wrong and it simply not suited for that task; far too thin and porous. I loved the shirt and wish I had bought just the crew version, because I didn't want the bulk of an unused hood sitting in my coat/helmet. Returned, unfortunately for me!

The Capilene air is a very unique and versatile layering piece for me. If bridges the line between base layer and mid layer very well. I find myself wearing this piece for just about everything from skiing and climbing to walking around town. The scuba hood and unique knit make it look like a fancy sweater, so I can totally get away with climbing all day and show up to a friends house with no shame. The material use is very prone to piling and it started to pile almost immediately but after 3 months of basically daily use it seems to have stopped getting anymore piled than it already was I thin 2 weeks. The fit is kind of peculiar fitting like a long sleeve shirt rather than a base layer if you choose to pick your regular shirt size. All in all I highly recommend this piece, it dries super quickly, wicks moisture well, doesn’t smell (I wore it for 2 weeks straight on a canoe trip and it didn’t have any funk) and it looks super cool.

This review focuses more on the fit. It is conformative (new word)! So if you have a belly or curves it is going to hug them. Its not tight or constrictive, the capilene air is soft, but it hugs the contours. So if you're looking for something that is looser fitting go a size up. This may be good advise also if the garment could accidentally go in the dryer!

Awesome mid-layer sweatshirt / hoodie. It's not your traditional hoodie; it acts more like a balaclava and is very formed to your head to fit under a helmet or beanie. Weight to warmth ratio is incredible. It seems very thin when you first feel it but it's surprising. Also the material stretches so it creates a very fitted silhouette. Great hoodie, gave it 4 stars because the price tag is a bit steep. But I guess you get what you pay for, and it's nearly worth it. I'd wait for a sale offer, grab it at discount, and don't look back.
