I love this technical base layer, mostly because i'm a technical guy. I love laying down deep carves on the corduroy at Park City all season long. This baselayer was great for keeping me warm in the winter months, and worked great underneath a shell jacket in the spring

Like a few other folks here, Backcountry provided me with this baselayer to test out - my review is representative of my personal opinions. 1) How I used this: Mostly skiing...which includes my volunteering as an Ambassador at Sugarloaf...which sometimes involves standing outside in the cold for extended periods of time. Also doing boring sh*t like yardwork. 2) Fabric: I have never been a huge fan of Merino wool. I have a ton of allergies and sometimes fabric like wool irritates my skin. Not this baselayer. Really liked the blend on this one. 3) Fit: I really love this baselayer because it's cut well in the right places. I'm a "bigger" guy - 6'2", 220lbs. I have broad chest/shoulders and long arms. Sometimes I get tight fits around the armpit/shoulder area. This baselayer fits great, and the material stretches just the right amount. Even with my long arms, the sleeve length is more than ample. I don't normally use the thumbholes in shirts like this because I like to be able to glance at my watch. A simply fold of the "extra" fabric is all it takes. Also, the torso length is on the longer side, which is great - you can tuck it in and keep the cold out of the general backside area that is often exposed with shorter gear...if you know what I mean. This shirt does fit snugly, so one potential downside is people taking pictures of you in it right after the holidays. 4) Performance: super warm shirt given how lightweight it is. I have yet to try it on one of those lovely -30 days we get up on the hill, but it was great when I did test it out. The fabric wicks well, and dries quickly. Overall I was impressed with this shirt and wouldn't hesitate to add a few more to my arsenal. I would also definitely check out other gear from Icebreaker now that I've tried this.

I was given the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt and Pants from Backcountry to test out, the following review is my honest opinion. I love this base layer. IceBreaker added some great features to the classic 150 weight top making it perfect for high out put activities and those start/stop outings like alpine climbing, mountaineering, and ski touring. The strategic mesh zones on the back and under arm let excess heat escape while moving. This keeps you nice and dry for long cold belays or digging pits. The thumb loops are great for keeping the elements out when worn under gloves . With a lycra/wool blend this piece is mobile, comfortable, and isn't itchy at all. Size: I went with a large though a medium would be better as a next to skin, athletic fit for me, I prefer a looser fit in my base layers and the large is perfect. It is long enough to stay tucked into ski pants as well as look good as a stand alone top. I enjoy having more freedom of motion in the large as well. My arms a lightly long so the large allows for comfortable use of the thumb holes.

I was given the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt and Pants from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. Being 6'3" and slim, baselayers (and all other layers for that matter) tend to be a bit of a challenge for me. Either the sleeves/legs are the right length and everything is baggy or the torso fits right and the sleeves/legs are too short. Thankfully Icebreaker has managed to sort this out with their products! The fit and quality were both exceptional. I finally got a chance to actually use them during a family trip to Tahoe that saw the seasons first snow. We skied and did some hiking and I was very happy to be wearing the Icebreaker 150 Zone long-sleeve crew shirt and pants for the duration of the weekend. The merino wool is an excellent material choice and does a great job regulating temp without ever smelling awful despite some strenuous exercise and sweat. I actually liked them so much I ended up ordering a few more pairs!

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I’ve actually been wanting to get some Icebreaker merino wool base layers for sometime. I’d seen them in New York from time to time. When I opened these, I was like whoa. These Icebreaker 150’s are very well made with superb stitching. Love the breathable panels. The colors and description seems to be spot on from the website which certainly is key when buying sight unseen. Fit: As soon as I tried them on I was surprised how well and effortless the fit is - even over my muscular thighs and calves, there were no super tight spots at all, which surprised me, they fit just very easy. They don’t fit like spandex. Some other merino wool shirts I own from another manufacturer are way too tight. Usage: I wore them running and riding my bike in high 30’s to low 40’s under Arcteryx Gamma SL pants and the shirt under an Arcteryx Procline Hybrid hoody and Arcteryx Gamma MX Hoody and they kept me super warm and dry. Wool usually seems leave a wet spot around my lower back and this thin layer was dry which again surprised me. I want to try them snowboarding now. Extras: I do like the thumbholes for extra warmth on the wrists and hands, a nice feature that I do like.. The sleeves are long though, but I prefer longer more than shorter for sportswear. I’ve only used these Icebreaker 150’s a few times so I can’t comment on the durability, but they certainly are very high quality.

This is a very high quality merino wool baselayer. I use it mainly for snowboarding but it works great for any outdoor activity where you need some extra warmth. The upper back panel and underarms have very small holes in the fabric to dump heat quickly. The optional thumb holes are great for those extra cold days. The sleeves run a little long and skinny in the forearms but besides that the fit is great.

I was given Icebreakers new 150 Zone Baselayer from Backcountry.com but this review is my personal opinion. I just completed a road trip from the Sierras to the Tetons. I camped along the way. The nights were well below freezing and the daytime temps were not much above 45. I wore the Icebreaker 150 Zone Baselayer the entire time. Hiking, driving, sleeping, riding my bike, I kept them on. Even after a week of living in them, there was no stink and they didnt feel slimy like synthetics can. Wool is the way to go. As soon as I opened the package, it was obvious to me that the Icebreaker 150 Zone baselayers are well made. The weave is tight and they are made of multiple panels of fabric to get a better fit. The medium fit me very well. No issues with sizing. The arms are cut longer to allow the use of the thumb holes in the wrist cuffs. I used this feature a couple of times. On an evening walk to shoot some pictures, I use the wrist holes to keep my hands warmer but kept my fingertips free to mess around with my camera menus. I think this feature may come in handy in few weeks skiing around the Tetons, where it can be crazy cold and keeping a good seal around my wrists could be handy. I own quite a few high end wool baselayers and these are as nice or nicer than all of them. The color I received was Chilliwhich is basically bright red. I dig the color. A nice change from black and it looked pretty spiffy under other zip or button front shirts.

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I have a number of different base layers and the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt has become a go-to for trail running, backcountry skiing and climbing. It's relatively thin, which makes it great for layering. I was surprised it was as good at regulating heat to keep comfortable over a range of activity levels. I usually prefer having a zipper on the chest when I'm working aerobically to dump heat, but with the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt, I've been fine just pulling up the sleeves. Used this way, it's a great single layer on mild days for casual running and ski touring. On a recent climbing trip to the Creek in mid-November I wore the shirt for ~72 hours straight as a base layer to sleep in during cold nights (super comfy and nice not having to get changed on cold mornings), hiking up steep approaches without getting too hot (I got a little sweaty with the sleeves pulled up but it dried fast), then climbing in shady corners by layering a fleece on top. I never found it uncomfortable and didn't smell too bad after 3 days either. The shirt fits how it's shown in the pictures which works well for me; it's snug across the shoulders (so it doesn't bundle up under other layers), not too baggy around the waist and the sleeves pull up over my forearms (I've found some other baselayers don't fit). I've had no issues with the quality after a month of fairly heavy use and it seems like it will hold up as well as my other Icebreaker base layers (which are pushing 8 years now!), but like any merino layer it's probably a good idea to add another layer on top if you're going to be dragging it across rocks. It's also not a quiver of one layer as there's no chest zip for when you're working really hard and you'd definitely want another layer if the wind picks up or the temps drop. Overall it's been a great versatile base layer which does exactly what you'd expect from it.

I was given the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion: I've worn the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt with the Icebreaker 200 Oasis Legging With Fly while biking 9 miles to and from work on a weekly basis in Chicago with temps ranging from 20-40 degrees F. I've mostly worn them alone under a Pearl Izumi ELITE Escape Softshell Jacket in medium (which I recommend) and a Showers Pass Skyline Rain Pant (which I really recommend, although these are NOT waterproof) in large. On colder days I change the jacket and wear my Arc'teryx Atom AR Hooded Insulated Jacket (also recommend) in large. The merino wool has always kept me comfortable even on the cold days. Additionally, it regulates heat so well that when I really get going I have never felt over-heated. Probably the best part about the merino wool is that I don't feel drenched in sweat by the time I get to work, and there is NO BAD SMELL when I store it in my locker (which my coworkers/locker buddies appreciate). It dries quickly, and is always ready for me to put back on at the end of the work day. The dropped back and front, and LYCRA allow me to freely change positions form upright to more aggressive without the shirt becoming untucked from my pants (huge pet peeve of mine). As for the fit and durability of the product, I am 6'1' 160lbs and size medium fits me great. The length is perfect in the arms, and when I use the thumb-holes, which are an awesome feature, it never feels too tight or like I am stretching the fabric, which is something I have noticed with other size medium baselayer tops. I have washed the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt with the Icebreaker 200 Oasis Legging With Fly about 15 times so far, and there is barely evidence that they have been worn. While I've never owned a quality set of baselayers like the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt with the Icebreaker 200 Oasis Legging With Fly , I have owned plenty of baselayers and I can say that I truly believe these are worth the price. Now that I've owned these, I can't imagine buying a different or cheaper brand.

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review Is my personal opinion. I’ve used the Icebreaker Merino 150 Zone top and bottoms in a couple different ways. Each time it has performed well overall. I’ve worn the top on cooler fall mountain bike rides and it has kept me warm all day. The heat dumping zones allowed me not to overheat on the uphill, while still keeping me warm on the descents. The heat dumping zones do not negatively affect the warmth/insulation of the layer. It is a really light weight and versatile base layer, and best of all it doesn’t stink after a few rides! The bottoms are toasty for how minimal they appear. I’ve worn them on early morning hikes and backpacking trips. They are super lightweight and easy to throw in a pack once it warms up, but a great piece to have once the sun sets again. I also wore both the top and bottom while backcountry skiing, and they performed just as well. It’s breathable, yet warm enough when activity level drop. The thumb holes on the sleeves are a great addition as well. See attached photo. I am 5’10” and 155 lbs, and the medium fits well for both top and bottom. The fit is snug, but not overly tight and does not restrict movement at all. I highly suggest the Icebreaker Merino 150 Zone for anyone looking for active insulation base layers. These are very versatile and breathable to keep your body temperature in the happy zone at all times!

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I obtained the Icebreaker BodyFitzone Base Layer 150 (upper and lower) to evaluate. I’ve had both products for a little over a month now and primarily have used them for outdoor trail running and overnight backpacking trips. I’m 5’10” and 160lbs. Based on the sizing guidelines, I ordered a medium for the top layer and small for the bottom layer. Both fit great, body hugging but never affected movement. The length on the bottoms were maybe a half inch short, but with socks, no problem. Most recently used both layers on a three night backpacking trip on the lower Ozark trail. Daytime temps in the 30-40’s and night temps in the high 20’s/low 30’s. Both provided a great amount of warmth during the day as well as night. I used the top base layer, with a low loft down jacket and then a rain shell when needed. At night was in a 20 degree sleeping bag and left the top on, provided plenty of warmth. The bottoms got a tad warm with trail running in similar temps but the heat mapping zones described work very well and were much more breathable compared to other wool base layers I've used. Specifically, for the top (see in the picture) the locations of the perforated areas are great and despite high aerobic activities, never felt like I was getting too hot. Similar to my previous experiences with Icebreaker, the BodyFitZone base layers remained largely odor/stink free even after several days of continuous use. At this point, cannot comment on long term durability but so far appears great.

I was given this product from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. The Icebreaker bodyfitzone 150 zone base layer long sleeve crew shirt was true to fit and the thumb holes were perfect, being bigger than in previous models and also set at an angle to the arm making it a much better fit. The arms are longer than expected. This allowed the bottom of the sleeves to be pulled easily down to the knuckles to help keep hands warm. Without pulling the sleeves down the material does ruffle up but it hasn’t been an annoyance. I plan to use this skiing as an under-layer but so far I have only had the chance to use it running in the mountains and hills. It was great and kept me warm and dry. The quality of the stitching and material in the Icebreaker bodyfitzone 150 is excellent and looks like it will last well. The top is made up of lots of different sections, some regular material and some a super-light material with lots of tiny holes for ventilation. These have been put in the areas that need the most cooling and wicking. It works really well. The fabric is very soft and not at all itchy like merino used to be. The inclusion of some Lycra has made the fit even better and stretchier. As with Icebreaker’s other stuff, I just don’t smell when wearing merino wool unlike with synthetic fabrics where I can’t stand my own smell by the end of the day. With the additional cooling capacity this will be great for backcountry skiing in the spring and I can’t wait to try it out. The bright chili red color is intense and slightly more orange than red but nonetheless will look great against my dark grey jacket.

The Icebreaker 150 Zone base layer is perfect for high output outdoor activities. I have used it mountain biking and trail running this fall in brisk temps between 20 and 50 degrees. I have been nothing short of completely satisfied. I plan to be using it for a lighter weight base layer for backcountry skiing this winter/early spring. The material is soft and comfortable but durable. I am not ashamed to admit that I dumped my mountain bike on a downhill, which scraped my entire left side of my rib cage but didn't damage the fabric of the base layer. I have washed and dried this product many times without issue. It never carries an odor after heavy use and washing. The color is fantastic. I have the Chili Red/Monsoon color and it's sharp! My bottoms are charcoal with contrast stitching. Breathability is perfect. It keeps me warm when I need it but can dump the heat when I don't. For lower output activities or in colder, frigid temps, I would choose a heavier weight base layer . The fit is spot on. I wear mediums in my base layers with a 42 inch chest for a slimmer fit, which I prefer in my base layer. I could easily fit into a large if I wanted a more loose fit. I wear a large in almost all my other tops besides my base layers. The length of the sleeves is adequate even when I choose to use the thumb holes and the height is accurate. The Icebreaker 150 Zone base layer has absolutely lived up to my expectations in a high quality, high performance, versatile base layer.

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. As an owner of several merino wool pieces, I have come to love the fabric's ability to moderate temperature while avoiding the funky smells that can accumulate in other fabrics. The first thing I would point out is that Icebreaker has designed a very fitted top, with high arm holes and no loose fabric. You can get a pretty good idea by looking at the photo of the model. That makes it great for layering or on its own, but just be forewarned that it is not going to look like a typical sweater if that is important to you. The fabric has selective areas down the side and along the back where it has a type of perforated weave to enhance breathability, and I tried to show that in the attached photograph. It is worth checking out Icebreaker's sizing before you order, as I think they run slightly small for a medium (but their sizing was accurate). With the thumbholes there is plenty of arm length, which comes in handy for cycling. I have the Chili Red color, which to me looks like an orange-ish red, and one item to note is that the "monsoon" charcoal grey pants have contrasting stitching which matches this top. I have used this several times over the past few weeks for activities such as cycling, hiking, and pre-dawn runs. It excels at active pursuits. If you were looking for something warm to lounge around in at a chilly campsite then you might be better off with a heavier weight fabric, or just layer wisely. This lighter weight fabric breathes well, weighs little, and takes up minimal space in a pack. A negative is that the fabric is somewhat delicate so you want to treat it carefully when you wear it. As a runner, I would appreciate some reflective highlights but that is not a deal breaker.

I’ve used the LS 150 Zone shirt for about 200 trail running miles in the past month. I’ve used it as an only layer in temperatures from 29 - 50 degrees and have been able to stay comfortable. I went without washing this for the first nine days, which was good for about 80 miles of running. There was no noticeable smell. Upon washing and drying, there was no shrinking. The height is perfect. It is a comfortably snug fit- not tight, but no looseness. Sleeves are perhaps a touch long, but I like to roll up all my long sleeves to 3/4 length so this makes almost no real difference for me. I do like the thumb holes- they are an added benefit for windy or chilly days. I would rate dryness an 8/10. Armpits are the only place to collect perspiration when no pack is being worn. Given so, the wicking is efficient and moisture is mitigated. With a pack on, some extra perspiration collects near mid-back, but again, the material is noticeably quality wicking. The small venting holes make a noticeable difference, are thoughtfully placed, and create some welcomed contrast in the material for looks. I did some bushwhacking through scrub oak and field brush with no noticeable tears or snags. This seems to be a durable construction. I have worn this shirt as a lounge shirt and have slept in it. It is comfortable and not itchy like some merino! An opportunity for improvement would be redesigning the thick stitching beneath the shoulders/mid back. Perhaps contouring this line with the body or using a stretcher material would offer a solution. This currently either limits mobility or limits comfort in mobility and serves as a point of distraction vs. utility. This is the only factor bringing this to a 4 star review.

I was given the Icebreaker 150 Zone Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt from Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. Over the past month, I've worn this lightweight baselayer on numerous occasions. I live in Northern Minnesota, and this is a time of year a shirt like this comes in handy. Not only do the temps and weather conditions change daily, but the type of activities I'™m involved run the gamut. I've worn the shirt under a mid-weight fleece and light jacket while mountain biking. I've worn it under a hoody while at an outdoor concert. I've worn it under a flannel while doing yardwork. I've even worn it to bed. The thing I like about Merino wool, and the blend used in this shirt in particular, is that it's super breathable, meaning I don'€™t end up regretting I put on a baselayer in the first place. Second, this shirt is versatile. I can go from easy work in the yard to a rigorous ride on the single-track trails near our house. In both (and many other situations), it keeps me feeling like I'm wrapped in just the right layer of warmth. More importantly, because it'€™s breathable, I don'€™t end up feeling like I'm wrapped in a cold and clammy layer my own sweat –€“ when the activity level is higher. On top of all that, the 150 Zone crew doesn't absorb the stink of some of my other active wear. Yes, I've washed it, but not after every use. Compared to some of my athletic shirts, which are made out of poly blends, the Icebreaker baselayer smells like a new day. The only downside I've noted about the 150 Zone crew is that the sleeves seem to run a little long. I like that you can pull them over your palms and put your thumbs through the holes (great under gloves), but I'm a guy who has longer-than-average arms. Not ape like exactly, but I have more than one shirt in my closet that fits great, except for the arms.

I've used this on a few camping trips in early fall here in SLC and it's performed nicely. It feels good to wear and isn't itchy or rough,it's super warm for how thin it is, and I'm tall and have long arms (6'2" with a similar wingspan) and I can still use the thumbholes on the sleeves without having to stretch out the shoulders at all. The arms may even be a little too long at times but I'd rather they be that way then the other. I've got the red and the bright color is fun but hard to hide if you want it not to be seen so if you want to be covert get the black.

I liked how warm this kept me. Unfortunately the sleeves on my Medium were about 7 inches too long(I am 5'4" tall). I also was not a fan of the seam that goes horizontally across the mid back. While Hiking with my backpack on, the seam kept rubbing uncomfortably against my spine and shoulder blades. I like the material, but would not recommend this for shorter buyers.

Sometimes I like a little bit looser of a fit for base layers, so this one is perfect! I haven’t gotten a chance to wear it out yet, but I will take it skiing first chance I get! Very thin, lightweight and doesn’t feel like your wearing wool at all! Being a tall thin woman, the men’s size small is a little loose and long on the arms and waste, but I actually like that. Ladies if you feel like your base layers are too tight, I would recommend shopping men’s!
