The Shield Lite Climbing Helmet is a lighter version of Edelrid's best-selling softshell helmet for big wall climbers, alpinists, and mountaineers. In contrast to hardshell helmets, softshells wrap shock-absorbing EPS foam in a thin, lightweight polycarbonate exterior. The result is a superlight helmet that spreads impact energy across the whole helmet. Although less robust than hardshell helmets, softshells like the Shield Lite will protect your dome from falling rocks and long falls. This helmet ensures a secure fit with adjustable straps at the head, neck and chin, as well as removable internal padding. Four robust clips accommodate a headlamp when you're sending it at night.

I was so looking forward to this helmet and trying out a different brand. I have had Black Diamond and Petzl helmets before. My biggest complain is the fit and the retention system- badly designed. I spent some time adjusting the helmet to fit my head since I am between sizes. On my first climb and at the first crux I have to look up to figure out my next moves and the helmet tipped backwards exposing my forehead- ANNOYING! In order to eliminate the tipping, I ended up tightening it even more till it became somewhat uncomfortable. I prefer a snug fit but not a headache inducing fit. Lesson learned is never buy a helmet until you try it on. Anyone interested in an used-only-once helmet?

Absolutely LOVE this helmet! I've worn many helmets in my day, both molded plastic and foam, and this is by far the best fitting and most durable lightweight helmet I've used. I've broken many petzl and BD foam helmets, sometimes from just packing it into my pack wrong. This helmet has lasted me dozens of expeditions from desert crags to alpine and ice routes to big walls in Patagonia. Never have issues with my hair in a "Man Bun" or when adding a hat or beanie underneath. Its easy to attach a headlamp and it always stays put. Basically, you should see for yourself why this is such a great helmet!

This is the most comfortable helmet I've worn. I have a small head and other helmets never felt comfortable. This helmet has excellent padding on the inside, is very light and stays in place while climbing. I also really like how the chin strap can be secured so that it doesn't flap around.

This helmet is lightweight and durable. The adjustable straps and snap clips make for easy adjustments. It is comfortable to wear. I've used this helmet climbing outdoors and it's a great, safe addition for more challenging climbs or when belaying.
