Black Diamond Half Dome Helmet for Sale, Reviews, Deals and Guides

I used this helmet for two years before buying the Black Diamond Vapor helmet. I wish I bought the Vapor right from the start. It's noticibly lighter, fits better, has better air circulation, and has a lower profile compared to the Half Dome helmet. The half dome fulfills it's function, but there's better helmets out there. My two cents: go with a different helmet.

My head size was right borderline in the middle of both sizes offered at the time of purchase. I ended up going for the bigger size(M/L) as I was wanting to use the helmet for both climbing and Ice Climbing in the winter. Works pretty great and I am still able to tighten it pretty well to my head. The only thing I would say is that it is very difficult to wear sunglasses or even normal glasses as the part that goes around the ear butts right up against a strap on the helmet.

This helmet has saved my life multiple times. I had a fist sized rock fall from about 75 feet above me while I was belaying on a multi-pitch and it just bounced off the helmet. Thanks to this helmet, all I walked away with was a headache.

Purchased the Half Dome helmet for our university hybrid indoor adventure climbing class because we liked the weight, the mechanism for tightening and the straps. We thought we had a real winner until we were inspected by ACCT and they would not certify our new helmets. The Black Diamond Half Dome are to be used in mountaineering, rock climbing or ice climbing, but not for use in challenge courses such as ours. The nice folks at Black Diamond were helpful, but unable to assist because they don't make helmets for challenge course use. Unfortunately Backcountry doesn't put the "fine print" on their website, so I didn't know that these helmets were not for challenge course use. We got a good deal on the purchase, but are now disappointed that we have to buy more helmets that meet the standards for ACCT. Read the fine print "instructions" on Black Diamond's website.

Not my personal helmet, but I’ve worn one 5 days a week all summer for my work and have certainly had time to familiarize myself. A few rocks to the head and two less than graceful falls later I can certainly say my brain is all The better for it. Comfortable (as far as helmets go) and durable, thanks to the hard outer shell. An excellent introductory or workhorse helmet for those who don’t want to see every dent in their fancy $150 foam domes.

I bought the Half Dome for my first helmet because it had good reviews and the price wasn't outrageous. I've had it out doing some sport climbing and recently on my very first multi-pitch. It's easy to adjust and pretty comfortable. I haven't taken any huge whippers with it yet, nor been subjected to falling rock, but at least I know I'm doing my best to protect the old noggin.

After retiring my first half dome, I was happy enough to buy another. I don’t feel the need to spend $100+ on a helmet and this does the job and is lighter on your wallet.

This was easy to adjust and comfortable for hours on end. This is a great helmet!

This is a quality climbing helmet. It comes in more handy for saving your dome from swinging cams when you carelessly whip your gear sling over your shoulder, but this helmet will also protect you from serious damage should you take a serious whipper or be subjected to falling rocks and ice. This helmet is adjustable, but it can get mildly uncomfortable when worn for several hours on end. Overall, lightweight, breathable, versatile, and full of peace-of-mind.
