I previously used a wool gaiter, but got tired of it freezing when wet. I never had that issue with the BS balaclava. Works great under a helmet or hat. I used it skinning up on cold mornings and it was nice to be able to pull the lower part down when overheating. Seems to be durable as well.

Very well designed. I moved from an OR Ninja balaclava (which is great except for skiing for me - kept freezing, fogging goggles) to a buff (the UV super light summer kind), which wasn't quite enough insulation to finally grabbing this at Keystone kicking myself for paying resort pricing (not actual different than full price anywhere else surprisingly). What everyone raves about in the reviews reviews is ALL correct. I think the design of connection points for the face mask are definitely what makes this work so well in terms of versatility. Over nose, right below, only covering mouth or just under chin, it all works. While the area near my mouth was soaked, it didn't freeze which I'm pretty sure is because of how they layered only that section with a different kind of material. Very impressive. Plus it's made in the USA!

The Blackstrap Balaclava is the absolute best for the cold and/or wet conditions. The wicking material is perfect and keeps you toasty warm.

My favorite balaclava, by far. Moisture-wicking material doesn't freeze and stays drier than any other balaclava I have. The mouth piece is easy to pull up or down for more or less face coverage. Fits easily under helmet. Can't go wrong!

This is an amazing piece. I love how warm but thin it is. I wear it on the super cold days under my helmet, it is great.

This is a great balaclava but it didn’t fit under my helmet so I had to return it.

You'd think that buff are a pretty one stop item, that any will do, but Black Strap proves that notion incorrect. This is the best buff I've ever had, and I always keep a few on hand for skiing. The material is soft, and DOESN'T FREEZE. Like, ever. It wicks moisture away, keeps my face warm, and doesn't pill like regular cotton one's do. The best you could have for a face shot pow day that leaves you soaked when you thaw out during your Apres happenings. The hood helps for extra chilly days, and never feels like it's too much fabric.

This is the go to hood for me. Great fabric to wick away sweat, and keep you warm as well. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get out on the mountain and protect their face from the elements.

Just got it and it's a huge improvement over the thing little buffs I usually use. Comfortable to wear, and doesn't see to hold moisture like many face masks do. Would definitely buy again.

This is a solid all-around face mask. It has a double layer over the mouth to help with breathability and wicking moisture. I used to just use a buff to cover my mouth/nose while snowboarding, but it would get super wet (and then cold) from my breath. I decided I needed a better solution. While this face mask does not stay 100% dry over the mouth if you are working hard/breathing a lot, it does stay significantly dryer than anything else I have tried. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to pull down the part covering your mouth and nose, and then pull it back up. This face mask definitely adds some warmth, but on super cold days or when I'm night skiing, I ski with fleece neck warmer as well. I own several of these blackstrap balaclavas actually... there are so many fun colors, how can I choose just one? If you are looking for a face mask for your winter activities, I highly recommend this one

Best ski facial wear I have ever worn. It has material which wicks extremely well. Any face mask will get wet when you put it over your nose and mouth and are skiing hard. But this mask does a great job of staying dry. Also, it is so easy to pull it over your mouth and take it back down depending on conditions. Bought two more for my brothers.

What I was trying to write is that this is the best facewarmer I’ve used — I love the versatility of the front, face-covering piece. This solves so many issues I’ve had — no gaps, great control of goggle fogging. Great product.

I’m cold blooded and have no tolerance for those annoying freezing gaps around my helmet. I also detest fogged goggles, a frequent occurrence with certain others balaclavas.

The design of this mask is brilliant. The dual layers make for a comfortable and flattering fit. With the moisture-wicking fabric, you stay warm and dry all day. Even after multiple uses it holds it mold and fit just like it did the first time I wore it. Do yourself a favor and snag one of these - you won't be disappointed.

Super comfortable and easy to slide up and down to cover your face. I use this for both skiing and snowmobiling and it works great.

I love the design of this balaclava, and the fabric is breathable, soft, and warm. Unfortunately the velcro strip at the top of my jacket started to destroy the fabric almost immediately. After half a day the area that contacted the velcro was starting to fuzz-up.
