Some of the best races around the world take place in the spring, but it's hard to be in shape for spring races when you start training in, well, the spring. That means lots of cold mornings, miles of mud and slush, and the Altra Lone Peak 4.0 Mid Rain Snow Mud Trail Running Shoe. With a waterproof upper and a rugged outsole, this shoe was designed to get you through anything Mother Nature can toss your way without missing a step. eVent technology in the upper offers total protection against rain, snow, and all of that wonderful in-between stuff, but stays super breathable so none of that heat you're building up gets trapped inside. For steep and sloppy trails, the outsole has been updated with tough MaxTrac rubber, and designed with a multi-directional TrailClaw lug pattern for dependable traction in any conditions.

For even more performance on technical trails, there's a 4-point GaiterTrap system that allows for hook-and-loop attachment of compatible gaiters, keeping snow, mud, and other trail debris out of your shoes. The reinforced toe cap and underfoot StoneGuard rock plate keep you protected from any unexpected rocks, roots, or other trail hazards that may be lurking under a few inches of fresh snow. The rest of the shoe is decked out with the same features you expect from Altra. It's got a wider toe box for natural foot splay, a Zero Drop platform to promote a natural and low-impact stride, and an A-Bound midsole for an energetic ride that won't break down over time.

These hiking boots/shoes will change your life. They fit perfectly to size. There are some reviews saying that you need to size down. That isn't true. They are a different shoe with a bigger box that can feel big but fit true to size. The larger box toe allows you to hike and run longer and harder without damaging your feet. So you have to get used to this new type of boot, but once you do, you will realize that this is the future of hiking footwear. I have put 100s of miles on these and they last and always keep my feet protected and comfortable. If you find these under $100 buy two pairs.... because you will use them.

Quite possibly the best trail running mid I’ve ever owned! Love the comfort and fit, I can’t even tell you which is more comfortable running between trail and concrete. I’m 6’1” 200lbs and I have a complete hip replacement. I can sprint through the woods without any discomfort with these. I now have two pair and different colors. Durable and good looking sneaker!

I’ll need to update once I ago beyond holding and placing one foot in with (2) different socks. Ido like the feel, look, wide toe box with unique sole. Unfortunately I went with 11, like most of my shoes, a few are 10.5, which there was only (1) left in the green which I preferred and $15 less! But I went with 11 (almost bought 10.5 & 11 to make sure) to avoid a $7 return. Now I will pay $22 more (For color choice #2) than the $96, now . Shoe longevity to be determined. But if in my original position, go down a half, or get both, I would have spent $16 less and got my chosen color! ***UPDATE*** The 10.5 in black arrived and have been wear tested. Love the “fit like a glove “ feel. For warm weather and thin socks I needed to use a thicker insert, with thicker socks the are perfect. In general, if a 10.75 size was available, that’s what I would wear. I highly advise dropping down a size. Super comfy, good reaction, great stability. It’s obvious the sole plate works with out adding too much stiffness. Fir the water proofing-spot on! Makes the Merrel “WP” models seem like they are made of cheesecloth.. Absolutely thinking about other Altra models. Pretty light for the protective feel they provide. Also, I ended up liking the look of the black over the green.

I’m a 74 year old golfer. Golf shoes just didn’t give me the “ride “ I need, and I’m not paying $300 or more to see if really expense golf shoes are any better. These are working out great. I do have to be a little careful on soft greens. Also, like someone else said, they do have a little bit of a galoshes sound..

Everyone always feels like their feet are soaking wet in waterproof shoes and half the time it is just from sweaty feet. The eVent membrane on these shoes are amazing! I usually have very sweaty feet to begin with, but these shoes let em breath in warm temps. Using them in winter is usually what I like to use them for (best fat biking shoe in the winter), but I actually threw em on for a hike in CO late spring. They crushed thru the snow no problem, but even when it was 75 degrees out, my feet did not over heat. Most shoes are made with membranes that are NOT air permeable (most GORE is a great example). This shoe regulates the temperature of your foot way better than anything else I have tried before. Also having the membrane exposed, allows for no water to absorb into material which makes the foot feel like the shoe is wetting out. Great shoe and protection even if your feet run warm.

Im so stoked on these shoes. For years, Ive spent my spring mountain adventures with wet, cold feet, but never again! I was in Big Sky, MT this weekend hiking Ousel Falls while it was totally down pouring. I even slipped into the river at one point, and with the high topped design, my feet were still totally dry. I definitely recommend these Altras for anyone running/hiking in any wet terrain, you will not be disappointed.

The main purpose of this shoe was for a full-time landscaper. Long days in many different terrains and stepping in plenty of puddles. Its handled it all gloriously. I've gone through my fair share of Altras and this is the same great performance that I keep going back for. Cons: The lugs, although amazing for the trails can be loud during the break-in period as expected. The rock plate was also noticeable during break-in. Sadly I have had to turn in these shoes to their warranty department due to a minor error in the arch well. I noticed a flaw in the water proof membrane mid-hike after about 4 months of hard work.

Recently purchased a pair of Lone Peaks and everyday wear and summer hikes. I purchased these for winter slogs in wet conditions. These do seem a little larger. However with a thicker winter sock they feel fine. I wear a 9.5 in the regular lone peaks with a thin sock. Altra makes a great shoe. I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes are great. No pain what so ever.

With winter coming, I bought these so I could chase my dog around the trails and stay warmer and drier than in my low-top Altras. They have been working great! They provide good traction on snow/ice/mud, and have kept my feet dry and warm!

Excellent trail shoe that provides much comfort and therapeutic relief. 23 years in the Army have done a number on my feet, but these shoes have allowed me to hike numerous miles in any weather and terrain. I would recommmend this shoe to any beginner or salty experienced vet. The shoe runs a little a big. I normally wear a 9.5 but I had to purchase the 9. The 9 is perfect and gives a little room for swelling in the feet. The shoe feels great in a thin or thick type sock. Great product!!!

The updated Lone Peaks from Altra are nothing short of excellent. They fit perfect, the tred is grippy and durable and they're waterproof breathable. I highly recommend these as a waterproof Altra "boot."
