It can be tricky to balance the drive to always improve your riding with the depth of your pocket book and  it's apparent at nearly any trailhead you stop at. Left and right you'll find beat-up mobiles adorned with top-tier carbon bikes, decked out with the sickest components on the market. We get it, and we think its important to prioritize the things that bring us the most joy in life. Industry Nine has long been the standard for the nicest wheels and snappiest hubs on the market, and while it can be tempting to toss the latest and greatest on the rig you strap to your rust-mobile, there's a point at which we suggest saving room in your budget for a few other components, and the 1/1 Trail S 29in Boost Wheelset makes a fine option for saving bills, while getting all of the thrills. The 1/1 Trail S combines I9's 1/1 hub, which is modeled after the Hydra, but built up to be a little more pocket friendly, with the trusty Trail S hoops that provide reliable stiffness, power, and durability while you ride. Internally, the 1/1 bares some similarities to the Hydra and its predecessor, the Torch, but is ever so slightly less snappy, with 4-degrees of engagement, which still blows much of the competition out of the water.

The 1/1 hub utilizes a 45-tooth spline, and six phased pawls that engage two at a time, making for 90 ngagement points as you spin. We won't try to convince you that the 1/1 will feel as snappy as the Hydra, it measures in at 4-degrees of engagement as opposed to the 0.52 that the Hydra packs, but it does fallow closely to the ever-coveted Torch which was long revered as one of the snappiest wheelsets on the market — that is until I9's engineers had to go and out-do themselves. What this means is that power is nearly instantaneous when you hammer on the pedals, leaving little energy wasted, and a responsive feel through the ride. When it comes to tackling the mountain we don't think everyone should have to break the bank, and the designers at I9 don't think so either, which is why this particular model laces up the classic Trail S rims to the 1/1 hub using the more economical J-bend steel spokes, which is where this wheelset gets its "S" designation. The Trail rims used are the same you'll find in the higher-end builds, with lightweight construction, and a moderate 27-millimeter internal width that accommodates 2.2-to-2.5-inch tires, finding the balance between reduced rolling resistance and plush control in corners.

Perfectly true out of the box and remains true, High engagement hub makes a huge difference in how responsive the bike feels, and a huge help on technical climbs. Acceptable weight for a trail wheelset. Rim width is perfect for the 2.3 or 2.4 tires that I run. Not as loud as the torch wheels I have on my other bike, but maybe it’s because these are new

This was a great set of wheels until the freehub completely seized up during a ride. It won't even spin. Only 6 months of riding.
