This is an excellent shelter for the weight conscious folks out there. The cuben fiber is super durable, hydrophobic and will not absorb any water. The quality of the HMG products is unreal, all handmade in the US. I love using this tarp for quick overnighters, as well as extended trips where weight and space in the pack are at a premium.

Its a tarp, but its probably the most well made tarp on the planet. The cuben fiber (named Dyneema now due to new owners of the company that produces it) material its made of was invented and used originally for racing boat sails. So its extremely durable and won't tear or even stretch under high winds or wet conditions. There have been cases of extreme hail storms making holes in the lighter material cuben tents but the actual chances of that are so slim that the weight savings wins out for me. I use my Echo II for tarp and bivy camping and its perfect for that, I don't have the beak or insert net-tent. There's ample room for a single person and could accommodate 2 comfortably. It has a couple d-rings on the underside for attaching a guyline to the bivy keeping the netting elevated off my face, a requirement for comfortable tarp/bivy use in my book. I've had it in several wet and stormy situations and with some experience in different tarp set-ups its possible to keep thoroughly dry, just takes some practice. Cuben is notorious for being susceptible to abrasion so I'd suggest being careful with setting it up and to use a nylon or silnylon stuff sack, re-purpose the included cuben sack for clothes or something.
