Small, light and fast adventures deserve ultralight, durable shelters optimized for the task. Hyperlite Mountain Gear considered minimalist solo, two-person alpine climbing, and super-ultra thru-hiking adventures when developing the UltaMid 2 Shelter. It's light enough to satisfy dedicated minimalists, yet tough enough to endure harsh winter camping conditions.

Made with Dyneema Composite Fabrics—the lightest, strongest, and most waterproof outdoor gear fabric available—this pyramid tent withstands the worst weather conditions, keeping passionate adventurers protected from raging windstorms and heavy snowfall. Use it with the UltaMid 2 Insert for added bug protection and to keep you and your equipment totally dry. It can be pitched on the ground or above it, and dual mesh-lined peak vents allow cooling airflow to pass through during summer adventures. Although Hyperlite Mountain Gear recommends you utilize adjustable trekking or ski poles for set up, the specially-designed cone peak can also accommodate paddles, sticks, or skis, when you're in a pinch.

Used this last year for 2,650 miles on the pacific crest trail. The tent was a dream, and outperformed my expectations, it even sheltered 5 people during a storm outside Yosemite. Have used the tent after and before my thru hike. Only qualms are with it not being freestanding, but that is life!

This is not about the shelter I'm seriously looking forward to trying out. But for now, this is about Backcountry's service. I ordered online on a Sunday night, and decided shortly there after that I wanted to get it quicker than the free two day shipping. So I started an online chat. Low and behold, someone responded instantly, ready to help at 9:30 in the evening, Sunday mind you. The Rep changed it to next day, and it was only $10 more. Awesome. The next day I called to add to the order, wanting to get the net/floor insert. No problem, got the same discount which you get with your first order if you sign up for email nktices, plus free next day shipping. These people are right up there with American Express. Sharp, fast and extremely accommodating. Just wants to make you order everything from these folks Tent review to follow.

There's nothing lighter or sturdier than Cuben Fiber (Dyneema). It handles the wind, is incredibly strong, and is 1- million -percent - waterproof. If you're all about cutting weight on the trail, this tent will give you exactly what you're looking for. The only bummer is the price tag. Once you've committed to Dyneema products, you won't go back.

I wanted something that was super light, but that also had some structure and could withstand storms, rain, and crazy wind. This tent is just awesome. It's super light, but at the same time, insanely structurally sound. The material doesn't stretch so you get a bomb proof structure, without needing to re-adjust guy lines during the wind. Another thing is that it's really versatile. This is my go-to tent for everything. I bought the mesh + floor insert as well. I use the exterior alone with a Tyvek footprint for the snow, and have used the exterior for alpine climbing with snow anchors. And I plan to use the exterior with insert for summer camping and an upcoming trek in Patagonia. I plan on using the exterior, set up higher up off the ground for some nice open air summer or beach camping in the future as well. Very stoked about the many uses for this tent and how modular it is. The double vents up top are great, for when you plant the tent all the way down to the ground in the wind, and there are loops on the upper inside for hanging a line, or clipping on a light. Furthermore, for the weight, it's the most roomy two person tent I have owned. It's larger than other 2 person pyramid tents, on the market, but comparable in weight. There is enough room inside for two people and gear. There is a pole in the middle, but you can offset it to any side once the tent is up. It's a small inconvenience but you don't have to carry any extra tent poles. I use the hyperlite pole straps to lash two trekking poles together to support the pyramid. Or if you are camping near trees, there is a loop on the outside top you can use to suspend the tent from a tree. Again, so versatile.
