Originally debuting in the 80's as a lightweight alternative to Danner's classic, more heavy-duty hiking boots, the Women's Jag Hiking Boot is back and now being reintroduced as a more versatile version of its former self, for both urban and hiking adventures. Suede and canvas come together in the upper for lightweight comfort and reliable performance, while the Danner Dry lining delivers waterproof and breathable protection in case you get caught in an unexpected downpour. Highly cushioned, the Jag has a polyurethane Ortholite footbed to absorbs rocky terrain and fights off fatigue, and the external molded heel cup offers added support to prevent sprained ankles. Rounding out this do-anything hiker, a retro Danner waffle rubber outsole adapts to varying terrain, from rocky trails to slick pavement.

I remember these Danners from the 80's and I always yearned to have them but never had the $. I was elated when they re-released this style. I've worn them hiking in the N. Ga mountains and they're pretty awesome. I will say- the lacing is everything with these. When I first got them, and had the skinny laces in, I thought I might need insoles that were better. I changed out the laces for the retro ones that came with the shoes and I can lace them tighter and they fit much, much better. I don't know why there's a difference but lacing them correctly makes them hit my feet in a different spot or something. I ordered a 1/2 size down per sizing chart and other reviews, and that seems the correct way to buy these. They look super cool, and feel great and seem as though they will hold up well! I'm stoked.

These shoes required no breaking in, so I took these on a hiking trip in only a few days after buying them! I was surprised at how good the grip was, even on slippery surfaces. I also can't get enough of the design. These shoes look great. They're also very well made. In response to some reviews that noted the shoe creasing uncomfortably where the toe bends - try going a size down. I usually wear women's 8, and while the size 8 shoe creased uncomfortably at the toe, I had absolutely no such issue with the 7.5. They really are waterproof, but keep in mind that any waterproof boot will make your feet a little hot. Not a problem in cold weather, though!

These are the first hiking boots I've ever purchased and I was sincerely not let down by them in the slightest. I've heard plenty of good things about Danner's and nearly went with the Mountain 600 boot but I'm glad I went with the Jag instead. As someone who is pretty conscious of attire, I was pretty stoked to see how cute these looked in person--I liked the classic hiking boot look but didn't want anything tacky. I got the Sandy Taupe color, and they seemed a little darker than the image, but the color changes with the lighting. I wore them straight out of the box for a lot of immediate mileage backpacking and hiking around the rocks down in Cedar Mesa. My feet experienced no real pain except a bit in my pinky toe, nothing unbearable, and I didn't get any blisters, so that was a big bonus! I would say they are true to size, perhaps a little big (like half a size), but it's nothing thicker socks can't fix. I will admit that they get a little warm, but that's also probably a sock factor. Though I have not tried it, I have no doubt that these boots are incredibly waterproof. The grip on them is amazing too, I had no problem scaling some of the steeper slickrock. All-in-all, I am thoroughly pleased with this purchase and would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of a cute and functional boot!

I’ve enjoyed these boots since I opened the box. I love the style and wear them out and about frequently. Break in period was practically nonexistent; I’ve felt comfortable since the first wear. Today I wore them hiking for the first time up a canyon waterfall, during which my feet remained dry and comfortable. I did feel pressure above the toe (in one boot) some others have mentioned, but it went away as I got to the end of the hike.

I looked at every style of boot before I purchased these - and I'm so glad these are the Danner boots I ended up with. Light insulation, but can easily throw a wool sock on and use these for winter hikes, too. I'm traveling in them, so the lighter weight was appealing - that and they look like a sneaker/boot combo. Actually feel like a cool gal wearing hiking boots in public - when is the last time that happened? A warning on size. I went to the Danner website to use their size chart, and I'm sure glad I did. I ordered a FULL size down, and it made sense when I saw the packaging. They considered a Women's Size US 7 to be a Euro size 39. I'm normally a US 8/8.5, which translates exactly into a Euro 39. So, order these boots according to your EURO size, not your US size, and use the size guide on their website for help! Happy hiking!

Living in the mountains I need a boot that I can wear everyday that is comfortable and keeps my feet warm. This boot has proven to be just that - I use them for everything from walking the dog, changing into after a day on the ski hill, short hikes in the backyard and even a casual night out boot. True to size, extremely comfortable! I debate buying a 2nd color.

I love the look of the boot but it just did not fit my foot right so I am returning this item. The retro vibe was what I was looking for but it needs to the right fit.

I think I am going to like these but they run really big! I am almost always an 8.5. I currently have pregnancy feet so I ordered an 8.5, thinking they would fit like a 9 (based off the reviews). I would say they are more like a 9.5 so I am exchanging for a 8. Recommended sizing down a half size or two for sure!

I bought these at the last minute for a trip to Namibia. I was looking for a versatile hiking boot that I could use to hike sand dunes in the blistering heat as well as kayak in the super cold south Atlantic. These were perfect! I sized up to a 8.5 because I normally need a 8w. I didn't experience any issues with the toe creasing that the other reviewers mentioned. The break-in period seemed quick, but I only wore them for a few short hikes and traveling on the plane. My feet did not overheat even in 104F weather. They also kept my feet pretty dry during some casual kayaking. Highly recommend as a versatile adventure travel boot.

I love the look and was super excited about these but they dig into the top of your foot right above your toes when you walk and I can imagine that would be very painful after less than a mile of walking in these. I ended up going with the Danner Mountain 600 Hiking Boot and am very pleased with them.

I have to say, I have had a very different experience with these boots than the reviews below! First, these boots were way lighter than I was expecting - possibly the lightest hiking boot I've had. All hiking boots take some breaking in and getting used to as these did, but i have yet to get terrible blisters or anything crazy from the couple of hikes I have done in these so far. I was most impressed with the support these offered considering their weight... can't stress enough how light and comfortable these are! Once broken in, are a great boot.

I've worn these a handful of times to try and get a feel for the boot on walks and such to break them in a little before wearing an extended period of time. All I can say is OUCH. The toe part of the shoe doesn't seem to have much give to it and every time I step, the top folds and pushes down on the top of my foot. Even going for a 1-2 mile walk in these is too much.. could not attempt to wear these two days in a row. Extremely sad because the fit is great and love the look of the shoe. Wish I could return.

I'm a rural mail carrier and I've been looking for a tough, lightweight boot to wear on the route. These boots were absolutely perfect. They're waterproof and they keep my feet warm when I'm in the snow, and when I'm inside working they don't make my feet sweaty and hot. Took about two days to really break them in, but even when they were fresh out of the box they didn't give me any blisters. They grip well on ice with a light dusting of snow, but they do slip if you don't mind your step on straight ice. I did have a little trouble sizing. I always wear an 8 1/2 in women's, but an 8 1/2 was about 3/4" too big. Even with a thick sock on it was too big. I tried an 8 instead and that was perfect. If you're going to buy these boots, I'd recommend breaking out a ruler and measuring your foot in cm, then using the CM part of the size chart instead of the standard US sizes to pick the right boot. For example, I measured in at a dead 24 cm when I decided to math up and measure, which puts me at an 8, and it's perfect. I wouldn't worry too much about sizing up to fit thick socks, I wear wool socks every day and there's plenty of space to do so. My feet never feel cramped or uncomfortable.

These boots are rad. I got them for my wife for our trip to Scotland, where we knew we would be trekking through the mud in the highlands. They were absolutely perfect. They are comfortable enough to be on your feet for long periods of time, wash easily when they get caked in mud, and look awesome on. Total win. Buy some.

These boots look nice in the pictures, but they are even prettier in person. The colors are vibrant. They're comfortable, but will need to be broken in. The arch support is there but isn't much. I also bought THREE sizes in these suckers because the sizing seemed to be different for each person. For me, they ran true to size. I'm a 9.5 in Vans and am a 9.5 in these. Thank goodness Backcountry does easy returns! I haven't fully used them yet but I am so excited to use them for my trip to Europe in March!

but first, make sure you have these boots. Hiking every day for 10 days through the Canadian Rockies was tough, but not on my feet. I sized down a 1/2 size, which was perfect. They kept my feet warm through a freak blizzard (in September!) and dry through multiple rainstorms. My only complaint is that the ankle runs wide at the mouth, so a few times, snow slid into the boot (easily avoidable if I had worn the correct pants or gaiters).

I love my new Danners - these fit great out the gate and took a half a day of casual wear to break them in. I have hiked in streams and mud, and they've held up to the task. The tongue never slides because it is attached to the boot, but is still easy to move out of the way when putting them on. I have the red ones and have received so many compliments. Danner forever!

Climbed Kilimanjaro in these - they are awesome. Only broke them in on 3 short local hikes before Kili. Favorite pair of hiking boots I've ever worn... They are comfortable and lightweight like trail running shoes, but with the support/durability/warmth of a quality hiking boot. Haven't worn them in really wet conditions yet, but my feet stayed warm and dry during light rain. They are also super cute - which is an added bonus. I don't usually write reviews, but I love these boots so much - thought it was worth sharing. Highly recommend.
