Backcountry Merino Baselayer Bottom - Men's for Sale, Reviews, Deals and Guides

I really like these, I typically run hot when snowboarding and doing anything active and this year I bought some pants that are basically just a shell, in the past I have always had some kind of insulation in my pants but I wanted pants that would offer more climate control with layering. These were my first base layer pants and I have to say I like them quite a bit. I will agree that the ankle cuff was not stretchy enough to pull past my calf but I really like them anyway and that wasn't a deal breaker, but I will agree with the other reviews on that. Otherwise, they are soft and just the right amount of warmth for all of my outings that have been in the 20-35 degree range with just an outer shell over these.

I love the fit of these, but a few small tweaks would make these 100x better. The ankle hem is quite uncomfortable since it does not stretch, which does not allow you to pull the baselayer above your bootline. Also, the waistband of these would be so much better without the fabic cover that tends to just twist and bunch up after having them on for a few minutes. Other than that, I love these and will continue to keep wearing them.

First off, let me say these are my first merino base layer bottom. I'm super happy with the feel and the warmth of them, but the fit is a little tough. I'm right between sizes so I sized up to the Large, but I think the Medium would have been a better fit the legs are a little more baggy than I would like. Also, the ankle hem doesn't stretch well, so it is a little uncomfortable to pull them up around your calve if you don't want them tucked into the boot.

The fabric seems very nice and soft. But the wrong stitch was used on the ankle hem so it has very little stretch and recovery. I compared the construction to a pair I have from Patagonia and there's a big difference. It just makes taking them on and off more difficult -- for that reason, I wouldn't recommend these.

I got these for my boyfriend as a new base layer for cold weather recreating (XC skiing, resort skiing, touring) and he absolutely loves them, They are very comfortable, soft, and wicks moisture away well however I would agree that the fit is a bit strange. He is a 33 waist with a 30" inseam and got a Medium - the waist is spot on but it runs pretty big from a length perspective. Also agree with the previous review regarding the cuff at the end of the pant, not much flexibility and can be easily ripped.

Ive worn these quite few times touring and resort skiing, and they are pretty darn solid. Warm, medium-lightweight construction, and Backcountry brand. However, the fit is a bit large on me. I have pretty skinny legs so I went for the S, but the waist on the S was a little loose on me. It seems the S is tailored for shorter and stockier size S men. Another issue i had is with the pant leg construction. The little fabric ring that holds the pant's form around the end of the pant leg does not stretch much, and feels like it can be easily ripped. Seems like a manufacturing oversight. All in all, still a solid product.

I've not had a chance to really field test these yet but they feel great. They seem to breathe like merino should and the form fitting like the description says. I like that they are machine washable but can't comment about durability.
