Arc'teryx Beta SV Jacket - Men's for Sale, Reviews, Deals and Guides

Such a great piece of gear. The jacket is very versatile, I use it for just about any and all outdoor activities year round. When paired with a mid layer like the Atom AR, and a base layer merino wool, its perfect for very cold activities like Snowmobiling. I have the Stinger Pant as well for all the same. When paired with only a t-shirt (pit zips open), its perfect for a rain downpour while hiking trails in Kauai, HI. I chose the Beta SV over the Alpha SV only for the location of external hand pockets. I don't do any activities involving a harness so, no issues with the hand pocket placement with the Beta SV. Overall comfort and mobility is top tier. I've had other pieces from other manufacturers and have not had the level of movement, comfort, and quality as I do with Arc'teryx products.

I was in the market for a reliable, durable shell that would last me at least 5 to 7 years or more so i started my investigation about shell jackets and what features they offered, fit, materials, durability, reliability, etc. Long story short everyone and everything keeps pointing me towards Arcteryx so i head over there and check them out and this is what i found out they are located in B.C Canada ? witch at first glance it seems that they just operate from there witch it would be good if they did yet they don't the only garments, that Arcteryx B.C Canada make themselves are Alpha line witch is the top line of garments so anything below that is outsourced to many other countries which degrade the quality of the garment like my Beta SV. My Beta SV was made in ?? China and at first, it raised a red flag because at the time i was under the impression that all garments were made in B.C Canada and i was questioning the legitimacy of my jacket plus it arrived in just a clear plastic bag witch raised more doubts in my mind yet i called directly to Arcteryx and they confirm it was legitimate so after that piece of mind given to by Arc i went and put the jacket through a simple yet effective test so i put my synthetic base layer my North Face fleece and i head out with my Husky out to a 20°F 15-mile windy day not even close to a severe weather witch this beta SV should handle no problem so i thought. So as i continued my walk i felt the wind getting through my back and arms so i tighten up my Cufflinks, the hem cord i zipped up the storm hood completely and yet i still felt the air getting in through the same spots so i thought may my layers were the problem so i went to my local REI and got an Atom Lt hoody witch is more than adequate for this mild cold weather so i got it through it on got properly zipped put my shell on all nice and tighten and went for a stroll under the same conditions 20°F 15 miles winds and the issue still remained at this point, i was getting pissed off because i shouldn't be worried about this after spending $600 so i called Arcteryx with this issue and they recommended not only a different garment but a $450 cerium LT 850 fill power witch is way too hot for the mildly cold weather we having here in the East Coast so i was like wth. So i explained with a little more detail and they were really hesitant and vague to admitting there was something wrong with the materials or whatnot because i understand the sacrifice of windproofing for breathability yet it shouldn't be that noticeable! So i asked what should i do and they said exchange it so i was like ok ill exchange. Then after that call, my friend showed up and had a cheaper shell jacket from Ll. bean and i asked him if i could compare his shell with mine and there it was no issue with his and yet mine was still letting the wind through the back and arms so after that it was clear there was something wrong with my shell witch cost 3 times the ll.bean i was disappointed highly disappointing. So here i am returning my Beta SV shell to these nice people and like told im torn apart by this shell because it fits immaculately it stops water like a pro yet it's windproofing is not up to par and if i need a $450 mid-layer to stop a 15-mile wind from getting to my body is not worth the money! I don't know if i exchange it if it would have the same issues because it's been outsourced instead of handling the jackets themselves to the highest quality they are famous for. Also, do yourself a favor and forget those hundreds of youtube videos out there about these garments because they have a lot of favoritism towards this brand they will say anything to get gear for free. Just because they put upfront that they are sponsored doesn't mean they are being Honest at all. So if i decide to get either the same or something else i will update this review and hopefully with better insight.

the Beta SV is well made, feels solid. Fits well outside a mid layer, which means it feels loose without one, The length is little long compare to a Beta LT. Have not used it but believe that is a good one for outdoor winter condition. Expensive though.

I'm 5'11, 190#, 42" chest, 32" waist. Larges in other brands are usually a bit too big and mediums a bit too tight, but Goldilocks has found her jacket in this one. Medium fits perfect with zero restriction of movement, while still a trim fit. Room for an expedition weight underlayer no problem. Just got it, so I have no opinion on durability, breathability, but wearing it around town while raining it feels great and not any more stuffy than my 3-layer OR jacket. I also tried the Beta AR, but preferred the SV. And, IMO the SV is less "crinkly". Super impressed with the fit/feel of this jacket.

First off, this jacket runs big. I have a lot of Arc'teryx jackets, and usually wear large for an outer layer (and medium for a layering jacket). I am 5'11" and about 185-195 lbs depending on the time of year. The medium fits similar to a large Gamma MX through the length and arms, but has more room to layer. I purchased this in Medium and there is plenty of room to layer without being too bulky (I usually wear three layers when I ski: 1) a thin fleece shirt (think capilene air), a long sleeve fleece shirt and potentially a mid weight fleece (I don't get cold and would rather stay cool than hot). I also wear bibs. After one season of wear, I prefer to wear my Mountain Hardwear Neo Shell with powder skirt on most days except ultra cold windy days. The Neo breathes so much better. On super cold and wet days, the Beta SV is a much better choice. It keeps out the wind chill. One spring/warm days I prefer the Neoshell or my Gamma MX. This Beta SV is definitely a severe weather jacket designed for cold weather. And for that purpose, it does it's job well. It is a super well built jacket, and still looks new. I wear bibs too, so the lack of a powder skirt is less of an issue for me, but I would not want to ski in power in this jacket with regular pants. If that is your intent, I'd recommend sizing up to get a bit more coverage.

I'm 5'11" and 175lbs - typically in between a medium and large and decided to go with a large in this case. It definitely is pretty roomy, but I prefer a bigger fitting jacket for skiing, especially as I like to be able to layer underneath it. I use it for both resort and backcountry skiing and it does do both pretty dang well. What I like about the Beta SV Jacket: - First and foremost, its is a burly fabric (80d means its not gonna get ripped apart from a little twig) that is Goretex Pro - made to take a beating when the going gets wet and nasty. SV stands for Severe (Weather) and its designed for that exactly. - I keep the zippers at the top of the pit and its easy to use the pit zips to dump heat when touring. - Storm hood, the love of my stormy life. Fits up and over a helmet and still protects the face - it also moves when you turn your head, not just getting sucked into the hood. I measure the amount of good ski days by the number of days I was wearing my storm hood. - Though its definitely a bigger jacket than what I'd wear casually, the fit is great for layering. Base layer, nano air hybrid vest, down jacket are my go to touring layers and it can comfortable fit all below no problem. What I didn't like about the jacket: - It doesn't have a powder skirt. I get that this may be a multi purpose technical shell (mountaineering, etc), but the fact that there is a pass pocket on the arm and not a powder skirt sort of irks me. All in all, if you're looking for a fantastic, burly technical shell for resort and or backcountry skiing, this is a great option! If I can only describe this jacket in one word, it would be: "Amazing!" Couldn't be happier with the performance and fit of this jacket. I have owned it now for about 6 months and it still looks and performs like I just took it out of the package. I went on a recent trip to Silver Falls in Oregon, It was an 8 mile loop that featured several waterfalls where you could go behind most of them. The water would shed right off the jacket and once out of the falls, do a quick shack and it's like it never happened. It pit-zips were nice when you need a little extra venting when it started to get a little bit warmer. It's 80 Denier face fabric so it will take insane amount of abuse for several years to come. I'm 6' - 165 lbs. and went with a Medium. I do like my jackets with a little extra room and it fits great. Little tight with layers but not bad. I upgraded to the SV from the AR for the additional coverage. This jacket is easy to love. Longer back length and hood to keep out the worst weather. It is much roomier in the body than a standard Medium for me. This is exactly what I wanted to allow for more generous layering. I love the interior dump pockets for gloves or whatever at a stop. The fabric is smoother and seems lighter than my four year old AR. It is very packable and provides excellent protection. I slid over a small rock glissading on my recent alpine outing. In despair, at the bottom of the slide I searched the rear of the jacket for the hole that must have resulted to find not even a mark. Another unbreakable piece by Arc'teryx.

This is a tough lightweight effective hard shell. The fit is great and so are the features.

Fantastic hard shell. Love the fit and the jacket feels very durable. It's breathable, but also great at keeping out the elements.

I wear this as a shell layer for skiing Utah 3%. Day after day, this jacket keeps out the cold and keeps in the warm. I've slid down granite, I've ripped through branches, I've shut it in the car door. Jacket is as durable as it is waterproof. I like the SV (long) cut to cover further down the waist and hips.

Spent the summer as a guide in Southeast Alaska in this jacket. Used and abused it daily by bushwhacking through thorns and shrubs, getting sea-spray on it, sitting on the ground on it, etc etc. At the end of the season, I washed it and it looks brand new. Never lost its water proof, never even showed signs of wear in the cuffs. My only qualm is it fits a little big. (I'm 5'10", athletic build and wore a large).

I went back and forth with numerous jackets for months before landing on the Beta SV. Very, very weatherproof, warm over a nice midlayer, not too crinkly. I've worn this between -35F and 30F and stayed warm and dry. Breathes nicely and plenty of pocket space. Long enough in back to cover my arse when snowboarding but not baggy or too long so I can appear age appropriate. The fit is athletic but not too slim or skinny. Really was the best of everything that I checked out, and I'd buy it again. Top shelf gear, Arcteryx.
