Wild Country designed the Ascent Screwgate Carabiner primarily for belaying, but it's also helpful for rigging anchors or clipping into climbing anchors. The skinnier side has a lip that stays secure to your belay loop, and the wide top accommodates Munter hitches should you choose to go indirect. The Ascent also features a wide gate opening, a secure screwgate locker, and a keylock nose for snag-free convenience.

I bought the Lite version of this carabiner to shave weight off of my alpine rack. I wanted a carabiner that light, but could function well as a for belaying and used for the munter hitch if needed. This carabiner is perfect for this task as it strikes the perfect balance between functionality and weight savings. The rounded top works well for the munter hitch where I-beam constructed light weight carabiners fall short. No issues with the gate clearance and as the other reviewer said, the screw gate is smooth and fast. I would definitely purchase again and recommend to anyone looking decrease pack weight.

I just received this carabiner. It is light. Still rounded instead of I beam which i like. The screw gate is the easiest and smoothest I have ever seen.
