We're guessing that not very many cyclists are familiar with Suomy cycling helmets, but those that follow motorcycle racing might have seen the brand's helmets before. It's no stranger to producing high-quality helmets and has provided the motorsport world with safe and well thought out helmets for over 20 years. It's recently put this same dedication into R&D and attention to detail into its cycling offerings and we first took note of them atop the pros on Team Lampre-Merida and later on the head of three-time cyclocross world champion Wout Van Aert. We're excited to carry these innovative and unique helmets and the version we have here is the Gun Wind Elegance Helmet. Suomy has always been known to bring brilliant colors and graphics to its moto helmets and with the Elegance, it offers a matte finish with tone on tone colors creating a handsome helmet that’s sure to look good with any bike or kit.

Building helmets that offer protection in the high-speed world of motorsports afford Suomy the expertise to build strong and safe helmets that keep your head cool and are extremely lightweight. The Gun Wind features in-molding technology with an outer shell made of polycarbonate for durability and an inner thermoplastic resin composite reinforcement that strengthens the polystyrene allowing Suomy to use a low density polystyrene which is not only lighter, it is better able to absorb the energy created on impact. The reinforcements also allow for deeper and more numerous vents that help shed grams and allow for increased intake of cool air and exhaust of hot air.

The inner padding is hypoallergic and features anti-bacterial and anti-odor properties and can easily be removed and washed as needed. And with all of those big vents, you'll be glad that the optional padding with a bug stop net is available to keep those bees out of your bonnet. The biaxial size adjuster offers quick and easy adjustments allowing the helmet to fit a variety of head shapes and if you're like us, go back and forth between wearing a cap underneath or not. Finally, Suomy includes a bag to keep the helmet safe during travel.

Having followed this brand on the moto side for a while I was surprised to see they made the jump into cycling. The Gun Wind Elegance helmet is the combination of aerodynamics, lightweight, durability, and ventilation that every company strives to achieve. It's breathes incredibly well when you're in the thick of a long climb on a summer day, and the weight makes it feel like you're not even wearing a helmet. The shape of the model allows you to descend without hearing a ton of noise from the vents as you would with some of the industries counterparts. It's the kind of helmet that are few an far between, hitting the nail on the head with bringing everything to the table that a cyclist needs in a proper helmet. It is after all the only piece of protective equipment we wear while riding. It's best to choose the best. The helmet has more of a rounded shape to it as opposed to helmet like the Giro Synthe that has more of a ovaled shape. It's a true to size fit for me (a gentleman of 5'10" and a medium sized head), with room for a cycling cap for colder months.
