Great shoe, great grip. Didn't really know how much I would like the forefoot 'freedom', but seems to encourage an almost 'barefoot' gate. Runs about a half size large. Significantly larger than my Speed Cross 4s. Super comfortable trail shoe, without the silly 'pillow effect' of some of other shoes I tried. 'Unencumbered' protection is the best way I can describe this shoe.

I've been a Salomon for over 15 + years hooked on the original XT Wings and have watch the quality, craftsmanship, and design decline. The XA Wild has a much larger toe box than any of the other shoes Salomon has had in the past. The welded upper overlays in the toe box actually make and audible popping sound every time you take a step. This is the same area where the new lacing design anchors and will be a weak stress point where laces will fray or shoe material breakdown. Sadly I will be moving on to another brand. Those with wider feet may be very happy.

Upgraded from x-mission 3 to these, tons of grip on downhills and really good toe protection. My feet aren't huge but on the wider side and they fit perfect *Edit after like a month -Still rips on downhill and protects my toes, but these are big they packed out quite a bit over time. Wore a US10 in other salomons but these feel larger, wish i had the 9.5

I wanted to like these shoes, but I have narrow feet. Size was good. The toe box was way too roomy for hiking/trail shoes. Could be a good shoe for wider feet....?
