Whether they're runners or boots, Salomon's footwear always has a speed-oriented, thoughtful design, and the Men's X Ultra 3 Mid GTX Hiking Shoe is certainly no exception when it comes to burly trekkers. The X Ultra is at once supportive and lightweight thanks to an Advanced Chassis that stabilizes the lightweight, breathable upper to keep you moving on the trail like you weren't carrying such a heavy backpack. Salomon backed this X Ultra with Gore-Tex Performance Comfort for reliable waterproofing and amplified breathability for hikers who really like to move through wet weather in search of sunnier skies.

The laces on these shoes will break well before the shoe is worn out. You can buy replacements but good luck putting them together. Otherwise a very good shoe. But laces are a nightmare.

Great shoe, well constructed. However as a consistent size 11, my pair was noticeably a half size too small. Returning them for the next half size up.

Dry feet, dry feet and did I say dry feet? We recently moved to Lake Country Minnesota. If you're not dealing with heavy dew each morning, you'll be walking through puddles of rain. Short walks with the dog are much more enjoyable as well as several hour hikes. Comfort level is excellent as this is still a lightweight shoe. The speedlaces are terrific and operable with gloves on and they stay tight.

This is a very nice hiking shoe. I find it is perfect when I want a little more than a trail running shoe but don't think I need a pair of boots. These shoes have good durable traction and are comfortable for a hike right out of the box. Salomon built the right shoe for this niche.

I was looking for a replacement shoe for my Salomon XAlp for banging around the foothills and this shoe works very well. I wasn't sure of the lacing system at first but have found it to be reliable and holds securely all day. It did take a couple of short walk arounds for these shoes to really feel comfortable, but since then they are very comfortable and have very good traction. Another great Salomon product.

Just picked a pair of these for summer hiking and trail running. I send back way more shoes than I keep because of hard to fit feet. These were comfy right out of the box. I wore them around town for a few days and then took them on an 8 miler in the wet woods with lots of ups and downs. My feet stayed dry and comfy the whole time! I’m thinking about the boot version for Kili next year.

I have never had any problems with any pair of Salomons and these have been no different. Just a great shoe brand.

I have the non-gtx version and it was great, so I also ordered the gtx for the wet weather. Unfortunately the shoe eyelets have not enough padding under it, after a few days' hiking in Utah's mighty five, the top of my left foot about 4.5 inches from my big toe(which is right under the 2nd eyelet) developed a bruise, and that was painful which killed the rest of my vacation. After I went home, I compared the gtx and the non-gtx version, the padding under the shoe eyelets of the gtx version is much thinner. Thank goodness I bought this pair from Backcountry.com, the CS was so understanding and supportive, even though it was two months after the purchase, he put me on-hold and talked to the warranty department who gave me the full refund. Got to love Backcountry.com.

I've only worn these a few times so far but right out of the box they were super comfortable. They were a bit stiff so a week or 2 of breaking in wouldn't be terrible if you're intended use is to go straight to hiking with these. But It's not super necessary. They have Salomons ortholite foot bed which is killer and the lacing system is superb!

Broke these over the last week doing stage hand work. Comfortable out of the box, bought a 1/2 larger than normal due to reviews, but feel my normal size would have been fine. Not sure the quicklace system saves any time, but it keeps the shoes tight, and there are no pesky laces to come lose and trip you up. They run a bit warm in high heat, but i will get plenty of use out of the waterproof feature.

These hiking shoes are hands down the best pair of hiking shoes I have ever owned. After years dealing with serious discomfort in my feet during/after long hikes I found Salomon. I have worn these shoes for the last three years (two pair lasted three years all seasons but winter...pretty great for what I put my shoes through) and I have been pain free the whole time. I just ordered a pair to wear on my honeymoon and they showed up in just a couple of days, just in time to make the trip and save my feet. I would and have recommended to hiking friends and even strangers on the trail.

I’ve had these since the spring. They’re great for hiking. I took one star off because I cannot stand the quick lace system. It really is unnecessary (I know they’ve stopped teaching cursive in schools but I assume they still teach how to tie shoes). Seriously, the quick lace does not allow you to get the shoe as tight as needed and it’s a pain to loosen.
