Fleet of foot and highly comfortable, the Salomon X Ultra 3 Men's Hiking Shoe moves quickly over rugged terrain to help you get to the summit, snap a photo, and cruise back down before the storm hits. The synthetic upper is lined with moisture-wicking textile and outfitted with Salomon's supportive Sensifit cradle construction, while the Advanced Chassis provides plenty of extra support to protect your ankles when you're hopping down tough trails. There's plenty of cushioning, too, with the OrthoLite insole, injected EVA midsole and footbed, and rugged molded shank. The whole package is topped off with a non-marking Contagrip rubber sole, which gives you loads of traction so you can confidently conquer the wet, muddy, and rocky terrain ahead.

Very comfortable all-day shoe. breathable so they are good in warm weather, and very durable material. My only issue is the tread design, it will hold on to small pebbles, and many times I have to stop to remove them. So be careful on softwood floors.

I was disappointed these do not repel water at all. Just walking through morning wet glass my tires got wet. Might return due to this. Besides that they are fine

I first bought these (previous model) because a friend hiked with them. I then bought the same model and hiked the 100 mile wilderness in Maine. They exceeded my expectations in every way. This new model is my fourth pair in this line and is every bit as good as the previous pairs. Key things for me. Wide toe box without wide heal. Rugged as all get out (I have a pair for construction use). Comfortable. Very supportive. Great rugged tread. Stiff enough sole for all but the sharpest continuous boldering. Good looking. I cannot understate how important and awesome the cable system is.

did 50 miles of hiking last week and by the end my feet were killing me and blistered. shoes were broken in before this trek. alternatively, i have the Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX Backpacking Boot which is great and have had zero problems with.

These shoes are awesome. The laces are fast and hold well. Easy to adjust the tension. Most Salomon's are too narrow for me, but this model fit me perfectly. They are holding up to several tough hikes. Definitely recommend.

...shoe from Salomon. Great traction and closure system. Super comfortable, but did experience some minor slippage in the heal cup which was corrected with a thicker sock. Thumbs up!

I really do like this shoe. It breathes very well and has a great sole. I do wish it had laces. But Im getting used to the teathers.

Great hiking shoe that won't weigh you down. I love how easy they are to take on and off. They really get the job done and have great arch support. 10/10 would buy again.

I gave these to my buddy for his birthday, he was looking for a good pair of shoes for trail and general outdoor purposes. He has no complaints and is very happy with how the shoes are holding up.

I spent 15 days living in these, 8 of which were trekking with a 25 pound pack 40 miles in and out of the Langtang Valley of the Nepal Himalaya. They are not a cushy shoe but are light and perfectly stiff, affording excellent stability for a nimble low top shoe. You'€™ll really feel rocks the diameter of a nickel and up, so on this rockier trail I was paying closer attention to foot placement than my ankle-high-clad compadres and felt the beating on our descents. To the shoe€™s' credit, I pushed it a little outside its intended terrain. My choice of a low top over a high was based on what I understood to be the groomed nature of this trail and ling days with a lighter pack and the weight savings paid off - especially summit day of Tsergo Ri, 4984 m. The non-GTX is also very breathable so I had no hot, soggy feet on our long days. This Contragrip outsole blew me away. Crazy grip on wet and loose terrain. Great going up and down hill. I made a point not to look at the tread until we were out of the valley and to my surprise they looked nearly unscathed! the plastic chassis on the bottom and the foam on the sides however, did not fair so well - a testament to the Contra. I think a good deal of mileage are left in these. After punishing these a bit I think the fit does run slightly narrow, but also a hair long. There were periods where I felt as if my big toe was edging off the insole of the shoe, only to have it self-correct after a little while. Though not a textbook 'wide' I prefer a wider toe box (I run in Altras) but these are very comfortable. The lacing system is something to get used to, requiring some adjusting throughout the day, but overall I am stoked and feel like these are priced fairly for what you get. Definitely a Salomon fan.

Husband had this to say: "Received these last week and am obsessed. Went on a hike to try them out. Ground was rocky and slick and these never gave an inch. Laces tighten well and don't cut off circulation, and keep you well anchored when coming downhill."

Salomon's shoes always fit me perfectly. So, when I am in the market for a new pair of shoes, I head to them first. These are a great pair of light hikers that do not need breaking in, provide plenty of support and provide even more comfort. I am not quite ready to throw out my backpacking boots but, if I am headed out for a quick weekend jaunt, I will grab these every time.
