The Salomon Odyssey Triple Crown Hiking Shoe is designed to keep your feet protected and comfortable on thru-hikes and multi-day backpacking trips. This lightweight shoe is built on Salomon's Long Distance Last to provide you with a comfortable heel hold, foot support, and more room in the toe area to accommodate toe splay through the miles. Its Anti-debris Mesh, protective mudguard, and protective toe cap keep dirt, roots, and rocks from slowing you down. Plus, its Energy Save midsole provides durable, long-lasting cushion while a Stability rocker in the midsole ensures high contact with the ground to keep you stable while you're carrying a backpack and a heavy load. And, with a Contagrip FD sole that handles varying terrain types, you can confidently wear the Odyssey for many miles to come.

I'm a 69 year old backpacker-not fast and light, but slow and fairly light. I first used the Triple Crowns on a four day Smokies walk primarily on the Lakeshore Trail the first week of May. I'm a size 13 low volume foot and use custom inserts. Out of the box the shoe has done well. I tweaked the fit by adding extra padding between the laces and the tongue. Great shoe when for all day with light pack (15-20lbs) and numerous creek crossings. Dries fast. Plenty of support and structure without being too boardy. . I'm counting on the PU cushioning lasting longer than the EVA in my old XUltra Mids. So far I am thoroughly pleased with the fit and performance of this shoe. This will be my Southern Appalachian backpacking shoe until the weather turns cold.
