The Zero gets it ultralight feel from a die-cast construction, which enables the reel to sport a minimalist and light design that could not be achieved with a machined construction. A click-and-pawl drag keeps the weight at a minimum and gives the reel a vintage feel that will pair well with a light line and fiberglass rod. The Zero's ultralight feel will also pair well with Redington's new and ridiculously light Hydrogen, or any other rod that would benefit from an ultralight reel. The Zero may be light, but it still houses a large arbor for quick line retrieval and a reduction in line memory, and has a unique handle that's molded with a soft material for a more comfortable feel during those long battles, because even little fish can give you a run for your money.

I bought this reel to pair with my new 7' 6" 3wt for smaller/tighter stretches of water. After having the chance to take it out on a few outings, I have fallen in love with this thing. It absolutely serves the purpose of a great small water reel. I will say, it did take some adjustment to get used to not having any drag, but it makes fighting those small stream cutties so fun! I probably wouldn't put it on anything larger than a 4 weight, but it's a great option for a backcountry or small water set up.

The Redington Zero is a refreshingly simple reel. You don't have to worry about any drag settings. The click drag makes a great noise when a fish runs, and the reel is great for palming. Makes fighting any fish fun!

Extremely lightweight and really smooth, especially for a click and pawl reel. Well-built and a great overall value. Very good reel for smaller streams or waters where the fish aren't big enough to require a regular drag system.

I paired this reel up with my Redington Trout Classic 3wt 7foot rod and have been loving this setup for the past year I have had it out on the water. This reel has a click n pawl drag system vs. the adjustable drag system which is perfect for a lightweight setup that you don't need to take the smaller fish "to the reel" on. The Zero reel is one of the lightest and most cost effective click n pawl reels out there. Bought this Reel to go with my 4 weight Hydrogen rod. Extremely light and simple. You cant adjust the drag, it has a simple spring with a preset tension on it. Despite the set drag tension it gives this reel the light weight perfect for the delicate top water fly fishing I wanted to do. I have used this reel one time so far on the Lower Provo River. We got skunked and were using nymphs. Probably wont do the dry fly fishing I bought this for until the summer. I would recommend this reel to anyone looking for something light. Other wise, go with the Behemoth. Pretty similar, but more adjustable.

The Redington Zero is extremely lightweight and simple making it a great reel for those smaller weight rods. I have mine paired up with a Redington Butter Stick 7' 3wt loaded with RIO Trout LT line. I'd have to say that it is almost the perfect light duty setup. It also pairs well with the Redington Hydrogen (the lightest fly rod ever made). There is no adjustable drag on the Zero, this saves weight and reduces the chance for the gears to get gummed up with sand and silt while you're out on the river. This lack of adjustable drag definitely took me a little getting used to, I found myself reaching down to twist the knob all the time. After getting more familiar with the reel and knowing what it can and can't do I am really enjoying it. It is a lot of fun to play a fish without much drag other than the palm of your hand, makes you feel like you're playing a Marlin or something. If you are looking for a light duty and lightweight yet sturdy and reliable setup, look no further, this is definitely the reel you want. I've got this reel paired with a 7'3wt Butter Stick and loaded with Sharkwave Ultimate Trout Taper. For an inexpensive die cast reel it's very lightweight and extremely sturdy. This is my first reel without an adjustable drag. While it does take some getting used to once you do the result is fantastic. Fish are a blast to fight when you get one on the line. I'd really suggest pairing this with a smaller fly rod. It excels with drys and emergers. I've even set up a small dropper rig with good results. Not great for nymphing or anything that adds a lot of weight to the line and long casts require some extra attention. If you're looking for the perfect reel to pair with a glass rod or to fish your favorite small stream you can't go wrong with the Zero.
