Quick alpine scrambles, multi-day treks, and cool-weather rock routes all call for the Rab Torque Pant. A combination of Matrix softshell fabrics help shield you from wet and windy weather, while the generous fabric stretch and articulated knees allow you to execute a full range of climbing movements. Plus, the zippered cuffs let you take them on and off over boots, and the DWR coating repels moisture so foggy alpine days and dewy alpine starts won't make you soggy.

Full Reviews
I ordered 8 different pairs of hiking pants from backcountry and chose these as my favorites (returning the others). They were the best looking by far - great slim fit. They're also stretchy and super comfortable. I got multiple compliments on them. However, the first day I wore them, I was sitting on a rock, and when I got up, the fabric caught on a sharp edge of the rock and tore. The dark part of the fabric - on the knees and the inside of the calf - is a fairly tough material. But the rest of the pants are made with a thin material that (apparently) rips easily. I thought about exchanging the ripped pants for another pair of these - that's how much I like them. But I sometimes go on multi-day hikes where ripped pants + bad weather could be a big problem. So I decided to trade these out for a different pair from Arc'teryx - the Gamma Rock Softshell pant - which have a similar slim-fit style. Unlike the Rab pants, the Arcteryx have reinforced material on the butt, in addition to the knees and calves, which probably would have prevented this rip. They also have tougher material in general. Backcountry made the return/exchange painless.

I've used these pants on several search and rescue operations as well as hiking and climbing. I've had them for about a month and I love them! Plenty of ventilation for hot days.
