Mother Nature creates some beautiful masterpieces throughout the seasons. Spring blossoms, golden summer afternoons, symphonies of color as the leaves change in the fall, and pristine clean vistas coated in frost in the winter — but some of these changes also come with serious challenges, particularly when you're dreaming of saddling up on your bicycle when temps are nearing sub-zero, and your closet is packed with nothing but shorts and summer jerseys. We'd suggest investing in a proper shell to get you through the months that are a little less forgiving, and Pearl Izumi's Pro Amfib Shell makes a strong argument for itself. With three-layer membrane to hold up to rain and wind, and burly softshell fabric, the Pro Amfib Shell is capable of soaring into harsh weather with confidence and comfort on your side.

The Pro Amfib starts out construction with three-layer, 4-way-stretch AmFIB softshell fabric that moves with you when you're getting out of the saddle or down in the drops, and packs in 50% more breathability than your average shell, so you can maintain core temperature comfortably without being bogged down when high effort stretches get your heart rate soaring and skin sweating. The membrane aims to usher moisture away from your skin and baselayers outward, keeping you dry and primed for many miles to come. While the membrane works to keep you dry inside, Pearl employs a PI Dry water-shedding DWR layer to the exterior of the jacket to offer added protection from the elements, keeping water and wheelspray rolling off of you when the clouds open up. Finally — Pearl tops off the Pro Amfib Shell with fine-tuned details, like bonded seams at the cuff and neck to reduce bulk, an Aquaguard zipper to keep water from creeping in, and two back pockets with a central zippered back pocket to stow all of your riding essentials as you brave the storm.

I bought this jacket to ride in cold to cool weather (20’s - 40’s) and love the fit, wind resistance and back side coverage. I haven’t ridden in wet weather. I don’t think it’s really a cold weather jacket. Even with an insulated jersey, I was a bit cold 20 minutes into a ride.
