So I bought this XL and the tropic comfort 2 hoody same size (XL(+). The tropic it's way way better. This one runs big like really big I'm like Large to XL size and this is like 2xl or 3xl . Also this one is more thick so if you want to be really fresh in the real sun go with the other one. The only good thing about this one is the pocket.. I wish the tropic has it.

Purchased this layer to primarily use for sun protection when on big snowfields/glaciers. Have ended up using this layer as my go-to layer for any and everything. Breathes well, dries quickly, and protects from harsh UV rays. Use it on trail runs, peak bags, climbs, ski tours and everything in between. My number one kit item for whatever outdoor activity I'm doing.

I've been hearing and reading about sun hoodies for a while now and finally decided to try one out. This has been such an upgrade in my clothing in terms of dealing with sun protection and staying cool. After a long day on the wall, I feel far less drained from being baked by the sun and I stay just as cool as i do in a shirt. Definitely recommend.

Great breathable shirt for warm days outside on the water or kicking it out in the trails. Ski lodge friendly if your apres activity runs hot

The Patagonia Sun Hoodie is a perfect add on to your outdoor activities. It features a loose fit, SPF 50+ and stylish colors. This item will be my go to this summer and beyond.

Great for blocking the sun burn out on those hot climbs, or hikes or days spent in the hot sun. This item runs big and would recommend going a size down. One thing I do not like about this hoodie is the cuffs of the wrists are kind of loose which is a little annoying while rock climbing.

wore this thing for over a week straight ski mountaineering in warm, sunny conditions. it is cool and breathable, dries relatively quickly, and protects from the sun. the amazing thing is that after 6 days of working in it, it smelled just fine. I anticipated that it would stink after day 2. pleasantly surprised...

I love this hooded shirt for sun protection! It is pretty thin so it's not great for a layering piece but it's great for being out in the desert sun or being on the water during sunny days! Got one for my dad for Christmas since I loved mine so much!

This thing is extremely comfortable, the soft polyester feels nice as a base layer for hot days or as another layer for cooler days in the desert. The material does have drawbacks though, due to how thin it is. After wearing this thing around the house because it was so comfortable I decided to take it to the desert as a way to escape the harsh sun that is apparent even in the fall. As I clipped my helmet to climb a route, before taking the hoody off, a strand of the sleeve cuff stitching got caught on the clasp and pulled out half of the stitching on my right arm cuff. I have had issues with Patagonia's hoodies before: the R1 3/4 zip shredded after only about 10 or so pitches and now I have holes all over my arms and a nice big'n in my armpit.

The first day I wore this product the stitching in the sleeve began to unravel on both sleeves. I was on a river/fishing trip in the Amazon jungle. Over the next couple of days it continued to unravel. Other than this, I liked the shirt a lot. It was comfortable in the heat and humidity. It gave good sun protection. It helped insulate me from the bugs. The gray fabric did stain easily and would catch on thorns and branches, but I was tolerant of this. The relaxed fit was quite comfortable. I sent it back to Patagonia for repair. They sent me an email with a credit saying it could not be repaired. I hoped they could reinforce the sleeves and I would keep the shirt, I liked it otherwise. I’m hesitant to get another from Patagonia since other reviews at Patagonia suggest this is a common issue with this product. I bought the shirt from Backcountry who said Patagonia insisted that the products be returned to Patagonia for repair/replacement. Since Patagonia won’t repair the shirt, I’d rather have a refund for a defective product than a credit forcing me to buy something else from Patagonia I don’t really need or want. It appears I don’t have any recourse in this matter. I can’t recommend the shirt only because of the stitching problem. It’s hard to justify $80.00 for something that in all likelihood will not hold up as described. I’d also like a refund instead of a credit, it kind of feels like I’ve been duped.

This piece is great! Nearly perfect but somewhat delicate (obviously). As advertised, this shirt does exactly what it's supposed to do which keeps you protected from the sun and also does not overheat you. The drawback is that this shirt is perhaps more delicate than many other layers you might choose for outdoor pursuits and in my case climbing. I imagine making a burlier shirt would sacrifice the breathability so I can't really complain. Definitely bringing this on every trip, warm or cold. I've used it in direct sun in Yosemite and in the shade and loved it in both cases. I love that I can pull this shirt on and off very easily over a climbing helmet and that the hood is very comfortable pulled over a helmet, this isn't a quality I've seen in any other garment.

This is a great top for fishing on a river. The oversized hood protects your face and neck well. Quick drying and no need to reapply sunscreens which ca be harmful to the watershed as well.

This is not so much of the product review since I returned it before using it. It runs pretty large. I normally wear men's small top but this one is pretty baggy (I know it's part of the design) that I have to return it. Since Banckcountry did not stock XS I tried it from a different store and it turned out pretty baggy as well even though the sleeve length was perfect. I recommend ordering one size smaller for the average built person.

What's good: it's very comfortable, especially for sun protection in warm weather; the fit is good. What's needs improvement: the fabric snags and pulls VERY VERY easily. I don't think I'm very hard on my gear, and I'm not taking it anyplace with branches or thorns that might justifiably snag it. After wearing the hoodie ~7 times it's already looking pretty bad - the front and back have quite a few horizontal snag lines running across. It's about ready to become a painting shirt, and for the price point getting there this quickly really isn't very good.

I bought the men's because I liked the color, and the pocket placement better than the women's version. I got a mens medium because I did not want it to be super tight, but It was HUGEE when I put it on. I am going to exchange for a small in hopes that it'll fit! I love the shirt and cannot wait to wear it on the river!

I bought this for my teenage son to protect him out fishing every day this summer. He loves it and has not been sunburned since wearing it. Light color is nice and the oversized hood he is a fan of.

Whether I'm working outside, fishing, or anything that involves standing in the sun for extended periods of time, this is my go to garment. Way better than covering yourself with sunscreen every couple hours. As with every Patagonia clothing item I own, seems to be stain resistant and does not get dirty or smell easily. Also gotta love Patagonia's lifetime guarantee. I plan to use the Sunshade hooded shirt for many seasons to come.

Picked this up so I could stop lobstering myself on hikes and surf/fish trips. It is pretty good looking, simply designed, and crazy light. I really enjoy how small it packs for putting in my bag too. So far it doesn't smell like a ripe onion, but we will see what happens after I wear it a week straight. It weirdly doesn't stain that easily, even after 3 washes. I spilled salsa/carnitas on it at a restaurant, got super bummed, then went to remove the food and almost all of it came off with no issue. Two downsides I have come across. 1) The sizing runs a little large. I am 6' and 175-180 and this is the first time I have fit easily in a medium in quite awhile. I am not swimming in it, but it is not tight. 2) It is steamier than I thought. I have yet to use it in water and test it in tropical use, but back in humid Minnesota, it was pretty warm. I will take those if it means I don't get torched.

This Sunshirt is a great addition to any outdoorsmans wardrobe. I wear it on the warmest of summer days and I am able to stay cool when hiking from lake to lake in the Uintas or climbing in down in Moab. The fit is like anything else in the Patagonia Technical Fishing series and runs relaxed, I find that a size down is generally a perfect fit for a sun shirt like this. If you have the Tropic Comfort already than this is a very similar shirt, however, the fabric is almost more of a tight jersey knit which attributes to its extreme breathability.
