Gave this to my fish-obsessed dad before his trip to Christmas Island this fall. Here was his feedback "I bought this 12-wt reel for chasing GT's at Christmas Island. While I didn't hook up on a GT, I did use it on several 30-40 lb fish in blue water. The single turn drag provides a consistent pull and prevents free spooling. While it isn't the strongest drag in its class, it has plenty of stopping power for most applications. On top of it all it has a beautiful finish."

I use this reel for saltwater and technical trout fishing. Provides great performance per lbs and is a big upgrade from the original Mirage, which I also liked a lot. Bomber construction and super light weight. I use the V striper fishing, when a smooth and responsive drag is key to landing fish from your backing. I'm cynical about using performance reels for trout fishing, but I trust this reel if I need a reliable drag to protect light tippet on bigger fish-- a good option for the Henry's Fork and other super-technical, big streams.

It's strong light weight. And so smooth to operate. It's a short and sweet review but that's all the feed back I got so far on it. I'm thinking of getting myself one in black nickel.

This is the best reel I have ever had. I have used the mirage in all of the different sizes, and I just love how light and sturdy it feels. From the salt flats to the jungles to the high alpine there is no better choice.

I like the large arbor for quicker line retrieval, the drag setting nob is easy to use and the sealed dried housing should be easy to maintain in salt or fresh water.
