Northern Playground has a solution to that too-hot, too-cold problem you probably agonize over when you're getting ready for a day in the backcountry. The Women's Ziplongs 3/4 Microfleece Pants eliminate the "be bold start cold" mentality your touring partners keep insisting on, giving you a bail-out option to the long underwear commitment. With a full-length side zipper you can keep your first layer on during frigid morning starts and zip them off when the day heats up without having to take off your ski boots.

This was given as a gift and she loves them. I got her both the wool and fleece version and she said the fleece version is so comfortable and soft against bare skin. She loves the 3/4 length which is perfect for ski/snowboard boots as well as biking in cooler weather. She thought the full length side zippers would feel weird or annoying, but she doesn't notice them at all and they're great for opening up to cool down while backcountry touring or biking. A bit pricey, but it's hard to find 3/4 length baselayers, so our options were very limited.

The Northern Playground Ziplongs are the perfect layer for cold weather. The super soft Microfleece sits next to skin and provides so much warm without being too hot, and when you do start to move a bit more and things heat up its easy off with the full zip down the sides. I love the 3/4 length as its so easy to layer over and provides plenty of room for tall socks and boots. I would highly recommend as a layer under Ski/Snowboard pants or under a favorite pair of hiking pants. I can't wait to try them while camping this summer as i often hike in shorts but these would be perfect for mornings that start off cool and quickly get warm.
