If your hydration system is lacking, upgrade to the Nathan VaporHowe 12L 2.0 Insulated Hydration Vest to make sure the midsummer sun and dry air don't get in the way of your runner's high during your training runs now or during your upcoming race. As its name suggests, the VaporHowe was designed in partnership with a certain professional ultrarunner. Whether you're familiar with Howe or not, know that she made sure the breathable vest came with a tailored, close fit that limits bouncing at all costs. It holds its plump 1.6-liter bladder firmly in the rear portion of the vest, ensuring you stay hydrated on race day when temperatures soar and aid stations are miles apart. Other pockets secure essentials like your phone and energy gel, and Nathan added reflective accents in case the race starts or finishes in the dark.

I have an older version of this pack and am coming back years later for a fresh new one. Why? Not because mine has died. It still has many years left! But because I love the purple color! I've used this pack on long road runs, long trail runs, pacing at ultras, day hikes, and even on shorter runs when it was super-hot and humid outside. I traded out the Nathan bladder for a different bladder that doesn’t have a slide top closure. It may have been user error, but the first few times I used this pack, the hard-plastic slide closure of the Nathan bladder left an awful chafe mark. Other than the bladder swap, I have had zero problems with this pack. It is soft and smooth and breathable. It fits everything I need for whatever adventure I’m taking it on. For my unassisted run of the Pemi Loop in New Hampshire, I was able to fit my extra layers, headlamp, emergency supplies, medical supplies, snacks, and a full 2L bladder. It didn’t feel overpacked and it didn’t bounce at all! And I love the quick stuff pockets in the lower back of the pack for when I’m warm enough to pack away my gloves / hat / buff but don’t want to stop. When I use this pack just for hydration during short runs in the summertime, it still stays secure and doesn’t bounce or flop around even though there is nothing but a 2L bladder in it. And when the bladder runs low, the straps are super easy to adjust without having to stop. Another thing I love about this pack is that the outside of the pack is smooth! I have long hair that falls across the pack even when in a ponytail. With other packs, I have had to cut my hair out of zippers, bungees, and toggles. But I have never had to do that with this pack! I get to keep all my hair! Woo! This pack is seriously like a second skin. It will remain my go-to hydration pack forever!
