When you your heel sinks into Mammut's Norwand Light Mif GTX Boot, and you pull those double-zoned laces tight, you know you're ready to rock the ice. The Nordwand Light stretches to fit your foot and is completely crampon compatible, so every time you sink your toes into the icy wall, you'll feel comfortable and confident. The raised rubber rand keeps this boot on tight so you won't lose your shoes to frigid cracks.

The Nordwand Light is easy to slip on, so your hands can stay warm in gloves while you ready yourself for the rest of your cold expedition. The Gore-Tex insulated liner will keep all the loose slush away from your toes and keep your ankle and foot warm so frostbite won't be what you remember from your trip.

I just used my new pair in Ouray this past weekend. I had a pair of Mammut boots in the past that didn't fit me very well, they felt really narrow--these are way better. I have a pretty average foot and can generally wear most brands, I feel like these fit better with no dead spots, I'm normally an 11 or 11.5, are perfect for me in 11.5, They were very solid feeling, extremely sensitive, with great heel hold. It's been warm but they feel about as warm as any of the similar boots I've used in the past. a little bit of hassle to get them on, but once on the gaiter works great and kept snow out of the boot on the easy approaches here. Great boot for mixed climbing. I would absolutely recommend these for anyone looking for a lightweight ice and mixed climbing boot.

Let me start off by saying I have a VERY wide foot and a VERY high arch.Bad combo for the majority of mountaineering boots. I normally have to size up 1 to 1.5 for most of my shoes and boots in order to get the width I need. Consequently most of my boots (and shoes) are always a bit to long. If I need to be in a position where I am on my front points, by days end my calves aren't happy campers. Imagine my joy and surprise when I slipped these on. At the 1 1/2 size up they were way to big. Plenty of width and to way to much length. So back they went for the next for the next 1/2 size smaller. The width was fine( this material seems to adapt to your foot width). I wear a medium to thick wool sock. After I wore these around for a few days I thought I could still go down one more 1/2 size.Once again, sent these back for the next 1/2 size smaller .Absolutely perfect!! I have not worn this size of mountaineering boot ever, My true foot size, the toe length was spot on. There was still room for the forever down hill climbing. No toe or heel issues, no black toe nails, no blisters ! I've climbed in typical cold winter mountain weather (0 degrees and wind) at 4000 meters in mid calf snow (no gaiters). My feet stayed very warm and comfortable. I personally believe these boots could be used at fairly high altitudes. They are what I'd consider the perfect all around mountaineering boot. Excellent for mixed rock and ice.Due to it's lower ankle height it might not be the boot you'd want to spend all day front pointing in.My only beef with this boot has nothing to do with it's performance or quality. It's getting the dang things on. This boot has 2 nice large loops to assist your hoof into the boot. One loop in the front and one in the back. Once you have managed to squirm, "wrassel" and cry like a baby to "glide" what's left of your appendage through the tiny gopher hole size opening, you may need to wipe you eyes and shower off. However, once the miracle happens and you foot pops through the hole... all is right with the world. No hot spots and it is extremely comfortable. The rubber sticks nicely on wet iced up rocks and wears well. Not bad for a Michelin Tire company sole. I have to add that the folks I have dealt with at Backcountry through the years have always been amazing. They are always extremely helpful, professional and friendly. The turn around time is always incredibly fast, thanks Pat for your help and patience.
