When it comes to ice climbing in the alpine, the lighter the better, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a big pack lighter than Hyperlite Mountain Gear's 3400 Ice Backpack. This pack's 55L capacity has enough room for climbing big lines and spending weekends in places like the Teton's meadows. Hyperlite kept this pack's weight down to two pounds by making it out of Dyneema, the same fabric used in climbing equipment, for long-lasting durability.

Unique to Hyperlite Mountain Gear, the Dyneema Hardline suspension system lines the back panel and shoulder straps in padded foam and spacer mesh for breathable comfort, and there are removable aluminum stays for extra stability when you need it. Hyperlite Mountain Gear equipped this pack with fully taped seams and a roll-top closure for protection against wet weather and snowy conditions. There's also an internal zippered pocket for valuables, as well as an external attachment system for crampons and ice axes.

Very lightweight and durable pack. Expands to a 55 liter, but with the roll top, it will cinch down to become a very compact pack. The exterior crampon holders are a great addition for quick and easy access. I’ve owned many packs and this is the best one I’ve purchased to date.
