This big-gauntlet bomb shelter for your hands stays warm on the coldest days and dry in the heaviest snow. Hestra's ergonomic Eagle Grip follows the natural curve of your hands in supple Army Goat leather and burly Triton nylon, while fiberfill and a fleecy lining insulate without sacrificing an iota of crucial grip. Gore-Tex denies soak-through while you dig your test pit, and breathes like a champ when your palms start sweating at the tip of double black-diamond chute. I went for the Gore-tex version of this glove thinking the extra waterproofing would help. However, it actually makes the glove worse for one very important reason. No detachable liner. The normal Heli version of this glove has a detachable liner which achieves two things; it can be removed to be easily dried AND for the price of the Gore-tex version you can buy an extra liner to keep warm & easily swap out on the slopes. The Gore-tex version effectively seals in any moisture that gets inside the glove and it's very difficult to thoroughly dry it out. This makes it a pain to use on back-to-back days and likely to get wet & cold on longer days. I swapped this for the Heli 3-finger glove & an extra liner, which is warmer, nearly as waterproof when properly waxed, and much easier to dry out & clean. I highly recommend buying the normal Heli version of your choice instead (mitt, 3-finger, glove) and an extra liner that you keep stashed near your base layers for warmth.

These are Awesome. I have a lighter pair of non Goretex gloves which are great for bluebird days but definitely needed something for the colder wet days skiing. They have kept my hands dry and warm and the overall functionality I couldn't be more satisfied with. Best gloves I've ever owned.

I will never buy a different brand. As a traditional tele skier I have to use my hands to get in an out of bindings so I wear gloves out fast. Hestra's are as tough as they get. I got 300 days out of my first pair and the only reason I'm replacing them is because I left them on the roof of the truck and drove off.

I have used these gloves for 2 seasons now. They are excellent gloves - from the moment you put them on you realize how comfortable they are. Went skiing in Whiteface this weekend, everyone else was complaining about their hands being cold on the way to the summit... except me. For the first time in my life, my hands are some of the warmest parts of my body when skiing.

This glove is super durable and warm. Hestra's leather is the best quality I have used and really enjoy the warm lining of the glove!

This is my favorite glove. It's super warm, and doesn't sacrifice too much dexterity for the amount of insulation. I love them.

The Hestra Army Leather gloves are very well made. As to the complaints about them not having enough insulation, that is true. Please bear in mind that the thicker the insulation, the less less flexibility you have in the fingers. The solution is to buy thin glove liners. Glove liners will definitely add warmth without too much loss in prehensile ability. I used these gloves, with glove liners, in 0 degree Fahrenheit weather while working 10 hour shifts. I was inspecting oil and gas drill pipe. The gloves allow sufficient dexterity to manipulate large calipers and tape measures. A picture of me coming inside on a -15 degree F day. I have taken off my Gore-Tex shell

They might be well made, but I don't think your hands should be freezing in a pair of such expensive gloves!! I also can't get them under, nor over any of my three jackets so there's always a gap between the gloves and the jacket. Very disappointed.

I did a lot of research on gloves before making a big purchase like this and after reading other reviews and using these gloves in Utah, I am happy to share my opinion. My reason for shopping for new gloves were to get a warm glove. This glove exceeded my expectations. At the top of Alta it was 25 degrees F with 30+ mph winds. Not sure where that puts the wind chill, but it was cold enough to find out if these were warm, and they kept my hands toasty. The next day at Deer Valley it was hot; which meant my hands were hot. It didn't bother me, but I wouldn't use these on warm days if you have the option of a lighter glove. My final day was at Solitude and it snowed at the top and rained at the bottom. Being goretex the glove performed perfectly. If you do decided to purchase this glove do expect the white leather to get dirty and remember to treat the leather as well. I am very happy with the glove and the service Matthew P provided at Backcountry.

One of my favorite things about hestra is the multitude of sizes and the ease of the sizing chart. So that was also on point here. Also, the glove has great mobility/dexterity which is awesome. My only complaint here is that the glove isn't as warm as many of their other options, even though it's at the same price point. If your hands run warm, no problem though. They perform well for skiing and the random snowball fights, and my hands never got wet with the Goretex membrane! I just wish they were a little more insulated.

I really wanted to fall in love with these gloves. There is no arguing that they are very well made, and that the feel and function of the gloves is outstanding. However, they aren't nearly as warm as a nearly $200 glove should be. If you're hands run warm while you ski, then this is the ticket. But if you're looking for warmth, there are better and less expensive options.

8" length, 9" wide, bought a 10 I've been struggling to find gloves I liked for a while, so I decided to throw money at the problem with Hestra. I wanted something reasonably warm, with good dexterity that I could use for biking to work, snowboarding, shoveling, etc. I tried on the regular heli in store and the fit was great, but I needed something actually waterproof. The pair I received were huge, easily an inch of extra room in the middle and ring fingers. I tried on a different size 10 in a store today, and they were too small in the thumb. At this price point, I expected more.

There is no question Hestra makes great quality products. With that being said I have been fairly disappointed with the warmth of this glove in temperatures below 32F. I first purchased this glove in the non-gore tex model and my hands literally froze on the first day at 20F at A-Basin. I thought perhaps the Gore-tex model may offer more wind protection, so I returned the first pair and paid the additional $ for the Gore-tex version. Essentially the same glove from a warmth perspective. In fairness, I have a difficult time keeping my hands warm and have struggled in the past to find a comfortable glove for below freezing temps. Unfortunately I used these a couple too many days to return them in hopes they would magically meet my expectations...which they have yet to do. I don't think they are overpriced for what they are, just recognize that if you have chronically cold hands these gloves will disappoint you.

These are my first pair of Hestra gloves and I was excited to try them out. I've put them through the wringer for 3-4 seasons - heli skiing in AK, Eastern Sierras, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and in every type of condition. Bottom line, they're well made, waterproof, and durable but they're just not that warm. I don't get cold easily when skiing but these gloves are terrible for warmth. Even with aftermarket merino liners. I've had gloves in college at a third of the price that were much warmer (but not as waterproof). After several seasons they're still holding up structurally and I'll still use them for days above 25 degrees F. I'm online this week to buy gloves for days below 25F. I'm looking at a mitten for the first time ever and think I'm going to try Outdoor Research's Alti Mitten. It may be overkill but better to have a layered glove that breathes and can get too warm than a glove that doesn't protect your finger tips and makes you more susceptible to long term nerve damage.

I've heard time and time again that gloves are something you should binge on and get a great pair that will last. So I pulled the trigger on these gloves, spending nearly 200 bucks. While I think they are built well, my hands were freezing and while skiing in overcast 28 degrees. Serious buyers remorse with these gloves...would not buy again.

Hestra know's how to make an incredible glove, because they've been doing it for a long time; since 1936. This is one of their top of the line gloves, and my top choice for a glove. Gore Tex insures that you stay dry and a fiber fill insulation keeps you warm down to cold cold temps. I love the gauntlet too!
