Just because there's water falling from the sky doesn't mean you're out of the woods on that 10-mile run you had planned for the morning. Pull on your Gore Wear Men's R7 Gore-Tex Shakedry Hooded Jacket and dash into the morning drizzle. The Gore-Tex shell repels water and breathes well when you're working up a sweat, and the zippered pocket stashes an energy block or two when you need a little pick-me-up around mile eight. When the rain dies down, stash the whole thing in its own pocket for easy transport.

Had looked a long time for a truly waterproof run jacket that was NOT insulated (I have ample stuff for that). My local Gore rep had this jacket and vouched for it. It's very minimalist (only the chest pocket) and as others have pointed out it's not an all-purpose jacket due to durability (which I suspect is absolutely true). I only use it for running, and for that it's fantastic. Also, it's really true to size. I have a M, and I can wear about one layer underneath (what I was looking for). I think in response to that "feedback" Gore has introduced Shakedry Stretch, although given the choice I would stay with this jacket.

This review is for the jacket, but would like to begin with the customer service of Backcountry and ensuring that the jacket arrived on time. I live in Los Angeles and rarely ever need a jacket, especially a rain jacket, but needed one for the upcoming Chicago Marathon. I spoke with a representative on Backcountry's Website, and the representative took the time to answer my questions and assist with ensuring that the jacket would arrival prior to my trip. 5 stars for excellent customer service! And the jacket was PHENOMENAL! I am not used to running in the cold, or the rain, and this jacket exceeded my expectations. I stayed dry, not 100% but pretty close, and my phone remained safe, although I took precaution to place it in a ziplock bag prior to the race. I am very pleased and worth every single penny!

The shakedry lives up to its name. I recently wore this jacket almost every day during a 3 week Bikepack trip. Kept me dry during a week of 35 degrees and rain. But extreme care has to be taken with both the zipper and the fabric. Both are very delicate and don't hold up to any sort of use beyond just wearing the jacket. Zipper is very fragile, after the first week I could barely get it zipped up. Turned into a 3/4 zip because I was too afraid it would stop working. I had to shoulder my bike through a short muddy section and managed to wear through the fabric. So yes it is very waterproof but don't expect it to last if you plan on using it beyond standing still in a rainstorm. I have similar weight shell jackets that have withstood years of abuse for comparison.

This jacket is a highly purpose built garment for running and active pursuits in wet or windy conditions. It looks and feels good on the body. It solves a lot of problems I have had with these jackets: it is waterproof, breathable, soft next to the skin, highly packable, and has a very good hood. Shake dry from Gore works well in that the lack of face fabric wet out is awesome. It is surprisingly difficult to find the right pocket set up for me: that is, a simple chest pocket that fits the larger iphones and is high enough not to bounce around too much. Also, I hate velcro at the cuffs, and this jacket has nice simple elastic cuffs. Fit: I am small, 5 foot 6 and 140 lbs. I bought the small. The fit is great up top and is down to the middle of my bum. I fold it inward once and it fits great for dry runs and comes down low enough for wet runs to keep the backside dry.I wish it was a bit slimmer in the mid section but it's not a deal breaker and allows for layering. There are many jackets out there and some that fit better. But, you buy this one for the fabric and for running in the rain. For that, it's hard to beat.

What surprises me the most about this jacket is how well it performs for its weight, or lack thereof I should say. This sweet little rain jacket is ultra-light weight and packs into almost nothing, which makes it perfect for smaller running packs or hiking day packs. I thought the Gore-Tex Shakedry was maybe a bit of a gimmick at first; but I went for a run in a wet snowstorm last week where this thing shed snow and slush like a champ, while breathing well enough to keep me from sweating too heavily in the cold. Even without pit zips I never feel like I am overheating in this jacket. I would guess the awesome breathability comes from the new lightweight 2-layer Gore construction. I cannot attest to the over all durability of this jacket as I haven't it had on any burly hikes where i might encounter branches and brush. But given the thickness of the material I would say that it might be best suited for trail and urban running in inclement weather. For me the fit is on the small side, typically wear a Medium in most jackets and found myself with a better fit in a large. My only real reasoning for the 4 star review is that there is just one pocket which resides on the chest. Hand pockets would be a welcome addition here, but would of course add some weight and bulk to the jacket overall. which kind of makes this more of an Ultra runners piece or just an emergency shell for day hikes. All and all this is an awesome UL rain jacket and performs its intended purpose very well. #Alwaysevolving

This thing surprised me. I wasn't expecting it to be comfortable. I put it on and forgot I was wearing it! I wore it on a winter run and it shed the snow perfectly! I also had fun testing it with a friend throwing water at me. It sheds water like a pro! Gotta love that Gore-Tex technology! It was plenty breathable as well. There are no vents on this though, so if you are someone who runs particularly hot and want some venting then this might not be the coat for you. But I found that I did not need the venting as this was plenty breathable. I kept it on after my run almost all day. It's a great little shell. When you first feel it, it seems like it's too thin to do anything. This might even turn into my emergency shell on hikes since it packs so tiny! It's great for stashing in your bag should the weather turn a little sour on you. I still think I'm a bit nervous to rip it since it is a thin 2 Layer membrane but so far it seems like it will stand up to the stray bush or branch while in the wild. It's a great windbreaker in warmer weather for casual use too. As far as fit, I have the Women's version (which isn't listed at the moment, but has the same performance as the Men's) and it is the EU 38, USA Medium and Asia Large. I found it fit very well, nice and snug but still with enough room to move comfortably and not feel restricted, with ample room for the appropriate layers under. The cuffs were great and have a partial gaiter to stay still and block wind and stray water. he zipper kind of annoys me since it is thin and I get it snagged a bit when I am trying to zip it up, but I think that's me just being impatient and not used to it. It is a very well crafted, streamlined jacket for those weather-impending runs! It has 2 external hand pockets that are not bulky and have enough room for your iPhone plus sizes. Overall, I am impressed and am looking forward to testing this against time and many adventures!

This jacket is incredible for all my running buddies. You ALL need one. This is the most lightweight waterproof running jacket I’ve ever tried on. There is one chest pocket that is great for holding keys or your phone, however I usually leave mine home when I’m on a run. The shakedry fabric is so smooth and feels good against my bare skin. The jacket fabric is also quiet, unlike others that sound like a trash bag while you’re moving. Let’s not forget how magically waterproof it is! I like the breathability of the jacket as well, I had no issues. I went with the Medium, which was perfect for having a thicker layer underneath on the cold days I take it out. If you’re one of those lucky ones with bigger hips, I’d suggest sizing up, it’s quite tailored at the bottom hem, making it so it doesn’t ride up while you’re on the go. Awesome product, with incredible functionality. Get add one to your closet and love yourself on your next run.

Gore has done a fantastic job with this jacket design. It is sleek and stylish in addition to its wonderful practicality. The new technology "shakedry" is a fantastic addition to the Gore-Tex line. It is soft to the touch, almost velvety, and very thin and lightweight. The inside of the jacket is not unpleasant on your skin, and is completely waterproof, and windproof. The jacket has two hand pockets large enough for a phone and wallet, or whatever else you would like to take with you. I tried the jacket's performance on a run, and was impressed with it's breath-ability. The day i ran with this jacket was cold, and windy, because of the conditions i believe the jacket kept me warm enough the entire time. If the day had been warm however this jacket may have become a little bit warm. I recommend this piece for cool weather running climates. I chose the Lava Grey color variant of the women's line, and it was very aesthetically pleasing. The color accents were bright and perfect for road running or biking. I normally wear a Small, and i chose a small in this jacket. I wore a lightweight running shirt underneath my jacket, and it fit well. If i wished to put a more insulated jacket underneath this piece I would have needed to size up.
