This was my first pair of shoes for clipless pedals, so I don't have any others to compare to. I was coming from the five ten freerider on flats, which I loved. I have relatively wide feet, and the freeriders were comfortable for me, so I wanted to stick with five ten. The hellcats are stiffer (so not quite as comfortable) and heavier than the freerider, which I expected. Don't get this shoe if you want something lightweight. They are heavy but solid shoes for clipless pedals.

Guys these shoes are awesome. Seriously. I bought them after reading a lot of reviews. Some people said that you're better off just buying Clipless shoes and flat shoes. And that's true, unless you ride like me. I tend to be very in decisive when it comes to riding clips or flats. I have Crankbros Mallet E's and bontrager line flats, and was always missing the pedal I wasnt standing on while riding. So I picked up some long awaited Crankbros Double Shot 3 pedals which have a clipless side and a fairly aggressive flat on the other side. I paired them with these shoes and it's the dream team. These shoes fit perfectly into the clips without being too tight or too lose on the shoulders of the pedal while clipped in. And the clip is recessed enough into the pedal that it doesnt touch the floor on flat tile. Which means that the flat side of the the Double Shot 3 pedals grip really well because there is no interference with the cleat. In essence, I can ride clipless through flow, then switch to flats when things get rocky and trially on the uphill. I had pearl issumi clipless shoes before buying these and they didnt work at all with the double shot 3's. I've finally found my set up. But if you buy this set up it has to be with the doublde shot 3's. Not the 2's. The double shot 2's are a completely different pedal that the 3's. You'll slip off the flat side of them like its ice, no matter the shoe. But these shoes are dope. Fits to size, not to stiff not to flexible.

The buckle on both my shoes broke. They are cast, not forged steel. The coat hanger I'm using to replace the buckle works and it stronger than the original buckle.

This shoe is perfect for basic mountain biking, gravel grinding and are comfortable for walking. They are stiff but great for all day wear. Very durable.

My fourteen year old son bought these for racing in the very competitive West Virginia Enduro Series. These shoes are paired with his Shimano SPDs and work great. Personally, I prefer the Kestrel BOAs myself, but these young rippers like laces. I’ve noticed that Five Ten has upped the quality and durability of their bike shoes over the past 4 years, guess Addidas has helped them there. Their shoes usually fit just true to size.

I didn't think the Maltese Falcon shoes could be topped for an all round freeride clipless shoe. But the Hellcat does it. The cleat is a bit recessed to not interfere when riding unclipped or hiking the bike. They have a fair amount of flex and feel more like a regular "flat" shoe than other clipless shoes I've used. I love these shoes for enduro and trail riding but also I wear them when riding my roadie or touring bike with hybrid pedals around town as I can actually walk around in them

The five ten hellcats have been a great shoe so far. I’ve had them for a while now and my first impression initially was how great the quality of the shoe was. I was also surprised at the fact I didn’t have to break them in. The first day you put them on they fit and already feel formed to your feet. The “clip in” option have worked very well with the inset clip zone, making it simple guiding your foot into place quickly. I highly recommend this shoe for any beginner in the world of clip-ins and if that is something that you don’t like in the end, it’s still a great shoe for riding flat pedals.

I bought this show becasue ive always been a flat rider and decided to branch out of the comfort zone a little and try clipless while they do both well i do occasionally miss my normal flat shoes. i do get more grip with my flats over these which makes sense. but I also enjoy the capability of being able to ride clipless if i choose. i also enjoy the stiffer shoe over my flats.
