Edelrid's Micro Jul Belay Device is light and compact, but it's more than just a sleek package. Its full stainless steel construction ensures killer durability, the design lets you belay a leader or bring up two followers at once, and the small diameter of the device lets it work with super-thin double and twin ropes, including Edelrid's 6.9mm Flycatcher Rope.

This is great for mountaineering. This with a Petzl Rad line makes for smooth controlled rappels. I've used a BD ATC Guide with two carabiners to try to get extra friction with the small line, but rappels are choppy and weird. This keeps your speed in control, is super light, and was made for skinny ropes.

Rapping into a line with skinny twin lines? This thing is crucial - autolocking on rappel (never let go of that brake hand strand!) - it gives you piece of mind when everything around you is slippery, icy, and wet. Weighs almost nothing, and does a great job at grabbing the rope!
