Your mountaineering pack is already full with rappel gear and avalanche safety gear. It's a good think Edelrid's Loopo Lite Harness can pack in your pant pockets if needed. The Loopo Lite features the same Dyneema webbing that alpinists rely on for safe catches and compact packing. Edelrid added a second tie-in loop to keep you centered on the rappel, which really comes in handy when you're rappelling with skis on.

I bought this for doing joint canyoneering and backpacking trips where I want as little weight as possible. I just got back from doing 2 canyons with 8 total rappels, some almost 200 feet. Yes, this is not as comfortable as my more beefy dedicated canyoneering harness, but it's also less than half the weight, so when I'm also doing ton of miles with a lot of elevation gain, I think this is the way to go. I was a little bit concerned about getting my rappel device oriented correctly, but with an extension, that wasn't an issue. I'm very happy with this purchase, and would definitely recommend for the weight-conscious.

In my opinion, this is the best alpine harness on the market. It is unbelievably light, and has all the features you'd expect from harnesses 3-4 times it's weight. The double loop tie in system is waaaaay better than traditional double-buckle designs. See my full review here: https://www.triandclimb.com/single-post/Edelrid-Loopo-Light-Review
