You like to set a quick pace, so you like a quick bag. The Deuter Speed Lite 20 Backpack is an ultralight, speed-friendly pack that will hold your essentials and keep you zipping up switchbacks—you'll just have to worry about your buddies keeping up. The wraparound compression straps minimize your pack's profile, reducing excess jostling when you're going fast, and the athletic V-shape keeps the center of gravity high for optimum movement. Ventilated mesh at the back and along the shoulder straps keep you cool and dry from trail head to lunch stop, and if you need to verify you're on the right path while you're waiting for your crew to catch up, stretch pockets provide easy access to your map and an energizing snack to keep you going.

I've had this day pack for over 2 years now and I use it nearly every weekend. It's the perfect size for long day hikes. I can fit all the essentials in this comfortable pack including a 3L water bladder. It has enough pockets for those things that require fast accessibility. This pack checks the box for lightness while maintaining enough capacity to carry all the crucial items you'll need.

I am so happy with this pack! Love it more than I thought I would. I compared it with several others including Osprey Daylite Plus and this pack looks, feels, and functions so much better! The comfort of this pack is what ultimately sold me, I just could not find another pack that felt so good. What makes it so comfortable is how lightweight it is, the straps, and the v-shaped design; it carries the load so well I barely notice it. Zippers are great, side mesh pockets do hold bottles better than I thought they would (when pack is pretty empty, the pockets will seem loose; once full, they’re good). I even love the front stuff pocket...thought I’d prefer a bigger stretchy mesh pocket, but this design works for me as I stuff snacks, a pack of wipes, and other small items in there. Lastly, I really like the simple, sleek aesthetic. I use this pack hiking, and as an everyday pack for my stuff and my 2 young kids’ stuff. With use of packing cubes, the small valuables zip pocket, and front stuff pocket, it totally works. I was worried about sacrificing organization, but the comfort could not be beat or ignored! So glad I went with this pack. I’m female, 5’4” and approx 17” torso.

Deuter makes a very solid pack, and I highly recommend this one. It is well made and a perfect size to use for day hikes (especially if are wearing/shedding layers), as an airplane carry on pack, or take the kids to the park and carry pull-ups/wipes/snacks/drinks, etc. It has three handy outer pockets, a perfect top "small important items" zippered pocket at the top, and a large main compartment, so you can keep things organized. It's comfortable too.

I love my deuter speedlight 20! It's my go to for a short to medium day hike or running errands on my bike or to carry my daughter's spare clothes and random items for an outing. It is light-weight and comfortable. It doesn't have a burly waistbelt but you wouldn't want to carry so much weight in it that you'd need it. For that, go up to the 30 liter packs and you have all the support you can need! This one is perfect for light loads in a variety of settings. I can fit my 15" macbook pro in it barely but it's not really designed for that. The ipad fits perfectly however! It makes a great carry-on and then you can use it outdoors to go hiking or running at your destination. Highly recommended!

I have the Speedlight 20 "S30" version of this pack but they're so similar I really thought writing a review about the durability would be the best thing to help someone in deciding. Yes, they both have most of the same features but it's the Deuter craftsmanship that should be the selling point. I've summited peaks from Washington to Banff with this thing. Dropped it on rockbands, scraped it up, put it in the mud, slide on my butt down snowslopes with it...it's indestructible. Actually everything I've bought from Deuter is. This is a fantastic buy, and you'll get your moneys worth just for how long it will last.
