Fueling your car up before you left town would have been a good idea, but your jalopy burned its last fume right as you reached the mountains, so you'd might as well take a quick hike in your Danner Men's Jag Boot before you thumb it back into town. With a killer casual look, waterproof insert, and breathable mesh lining, the Jag pulls double duty as around-town casual boot and light hiker for mellow days in the hills. It's made with a combination of canvas and suede, and it has a retro waffle sole that's a throwback to Danner's Free Spirit hiking boot from way back in the '80s (that's the 1980s, by the way).

These boots lasted less than a year for me with mostly casual use and some camping/hiking. The sole looks brand new but the upper has completely fallen apart. Danner quality has apparently gone downhill.

Wow, I really hate how these feel. They’re the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever had on my feet, and they’ve actually made my plantar fasciitis flare up again (it had been doing great). I didn’t only wear these either; I alternated between these boots and other shoes. I want to like them, because they look good and they seem well-constructed. Plus, everyone raves about Danners and they’re not cheap. I thought they were like a sneaker/boot hybrid, so I figured they’d be more comfortable than a boot, but I was wrong! They’re stiff and heavy. I understood they might require some breaking in, so I immediately added insoles and I wore them around the house for short periods before hitting the trails and pavement. I should have just returned them right away, because they felt awful. They dig in around the ankle area, and there’s some additional material that pushes into my shin because of the waterproof tongue thing. There was also some digging in across the top of the foot. When I’m wearing them, I can’t wait to get home and tear them off. After putting around 15-20 miles on them, they’re only marginally better. The digging in at the top of the foot has decreased due to the break-in process, but they’re still frustratingly uncomfortable elsewhere. The right one also makes a weird “thunk” noise with each step that hasn’t diminished (despite me trying them with two different brands of insoles), and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. Maybe a manufacturing defect? The reviews were mostly positive, so I don’t know if I got some duds or if I’m unusually sensitive. I won’t buy Danners again, and I wouldn’t recommend these for anyone who has plantar fasciitis or sensitive feet (as I clearly must have). These will collect dust in the back of my closet, unfortunately. I obviously can’t return them now because I wore them outside (I was being naive about breaking them in and thinking that would help make them more comfortable)but at least they taught me a lesson about being more selective about my footwear.

I bought these boots with high hopes of quality that this brand is supposed to stand for. I literally drove in them on the first day of wearing and by the second day they are falling apart. Very disappointed in this brand.

Bought on Mar 22 2018 it's now November 2018. Super comfortable out of the box. However after 3 months of daily wear the rubber toe has pulled away from the leather. The EVA has separated in places. The waterproof material does not work.... and the list goes on. For the price of these boots they should blow away a set of Keens or Merrills. I wear theses about every day and don't do a whole lot of packing or carrying of heavy loads. I work over seas and expect a company like danner to build a better boot. The sole wore out way too fast as well.

After little over a year the waterproofing gave out totally. Company won't stand by the product. Absolutely garbage. Barely used and went to junk very fast. Sad because they were very comfortable...but what good do they do after such little use and no water protection. JUNK!

I wanted a comfortable waterproof boot for wearing around town during the winter. This guy fits the bill, looks great, and has held up well.

I love the way these boots look. They have a retro style but are super comfortable. They look so nice and are so stylin i use them for around town, but they are definitely rugged and comfortable enough to use for hiking/backpacking/going on adventures.

I work in a very dry, VERY hot environment. I buy new shoes every 3-months. These shoes are very light, comfortable and perform. I did not buy them for hiking, trail walking etc. I bought them for every day use. I wear them on concrete, sand, and dirt daily. I wear heavy gear on certain days. Which I expect to break the shoes down faster. But so far so good, 2-months in. Since leather shoes are hot on my feet I chose these danners in the steel gray/blue wing color. I’m very impressed and am looking at purchasing another pair soon. True to size. 208lbs, 6,3” 10.5 shoe size.

Another great product from Danner, function, fashion, comfort, durability. I've been wearing these this fall/winter and can't say enough about them. They are my go to boots for non technical peaks as well as hangin with friends and even yard work. Fit's true to size and I'll be buying more.

My husband's review...Are they boots, are they sneakers...nobody knows. But they're awesome. They look great and I often wear them casually, but they are sturdy boots that would definitely work as hiking boots too. Great support and great soles. Recommend

Living in the PNW, I needed an everyday boot I could use to bike commute in/get around town, without worrying about the constant downpour of rain soaking my feet (I live in Portland). The Jags have been rock-solid so far, offering a stylish design without sacrificing functionality. The fit is awesome, and were ready go out of the box (no break-in period necessary). Seeing as how I got these primarily for city use, I haven't been able to test them out on any trails yet, though, based on how they've performed so far, I'm confident they'd serve fine for day hikes. Stoked to add these to my Danner collection.

I've spent my hiking life suffering through stiff and heavy boots. These Danner's though, they offer plenty of support while being lightweight, flexible, and comfortable straight out of the box.

These boots fit great right out of the box! Immediately comfortable and true to size. Come with red and blue laces. UPDATE: Just purchased a second pair in another color. These are my "daily drivers" as far as shoes are concerned.

Great boot. Love the craftsmanship. High quality. Lots of compliments. Functional AND fashionable. Haven't done big hikes in them but I'm sure they'd be adequate. They do seem to run about a 1/2 size large.

Really liking these so far. Lots of day hikes and long days in the city and they are super comfy. Surprisingly good arch and ankle support despite the low weight. I could easily see doing a 2 night summer trip with a 40 pound bag with these bad boys. I love the styling on the Jag...they look great with jeans around town and don't have that typical "dorky hiker" look. My only gripe is that the tongue is connected high up and creates a crease, which kind of rubbed for a while during break in. I was concerned at first but it has since softened. Had to buy these on Zappos since BC was sold out in my size.

I bought this boot for the looks but dang it works awesome as well, the Danner Dry is money. These boots were comfortable right out of the box.

I'm a fan of function, Im a bigger fan of looking great when it counts. Perfect light hiker that is stylish and trail ready. The foot bed creates instant satisfaction, you know you are going to at least be comfortable and dry! If you have any questions about this boot or any other hike and camp needs, give me a call! Awesome boots - super comfortable, lightweight and great protection from the elements. I ordered these in two colors with the intention of returning whichever color I liked less. I liked them so much that I kept both pairs. This was my first order from Backcountry, was very pleased with the customer service.
