Combining the robust quality we've come to expect from the original with a sleek, all-black look, the Continental Gatorskin Black Edition Tires are still for the urban cyclist whose daily commute consists of mile after mile of roughshod roads, but also appreciates a striking aesthetic. The Gatorskins feature two distinct layers of puncture protection: a Duraskin mesh at the sidewalls to prevent cuts, and a dense, PolyX breaker under the tread to protect against direct punctures and road debris. From wet, wintry conditions to gravel-strewn, pothole-ridden roads, this tire leads you confidently into battle.

I use them on a Diamondback cross/gravel bike that I ride exclusively on the road. I get about 3,000-3,500 miles on a rear and at least double that on the front. I actually probably could use it for longer, but I tend to be conservative about changing out tires as I'm not willing to risk any problems with older tire. (Actually when sidewalls start fraying a bit I tend to change out--about 1.5-2 years.) A knowledgeable bikeshop owner told me that the flat resistance is really no better than many other tires but the sidewalls are more durable and less prone to side cuts. I really never get flats. I think over the last 10,000 miles I've had one and that was a valve failure. In fact I think if you aren't a high milage rider it's a good idea as a matter of course to change out your inner tubes annually or every year and a half. I don't ride in really grungy urban environments, but many of the roads are hardly pristine and I'm going over them at high speed. I know there are tires considered more pliable or "sporty" but when it's 42 degrees and light is fading and I'm really tired, about the last thing I want to do deal with a flat tire. These are great for what I ride.

I’ve been riding on these tires for the last 5 years. Great traction in wet conditions. It wears evenly. I ride about 4,000 plus miles a year and I’ve never had a problem with them. I recommend it.

I had read previous reviews on Amazon that there were complaints of holes on the tires. I inspected prior to install and saw that mine had them too. I contacted Continental's customer service and they quickly replied indicating that the "holes" are wear indicators and do not have any impact to performance. I only have about 100 miles on them currently, but they've performed well and I'm confident on pavement and gravel.

I ride between 5000-6000 miles a year. 90% of the roads are horrible chip seal at best. Roads are usually full of gravel, glass, trash, and construction debris. The only thing that I had that has flatted these tires were construction staples and a roofing nail. I get between 6000-7000 miles of riding out of these. My new bike (I got Jun 2020) had Vittoria Rubino Pros on it. They were showing more wear after 200 mile then these do after 400 miles and they don't role as good as these do. They are not by any means racing tires, but they role remarkably well for endurance tires. Most of the people I ride with use either these or the Conti Gator Hardshells. Love the look of the Black Edition!

Impressed with the tyres. I have the durability of the gatorskins and the all black sleekness. What else can you ask for?
