Upgrading from a cheaper compass where all of the markings have been scratched off. This compass has all of the markings on the inside so this won't happen. Adding in the sight mirror and a clinometer, and this is all you need (with maps of course). Very happy with this. Should last a long, long time.

You could get a $300 watch that would help you track back to where you came from, or you could spend $36 dollars and a few dollars on a 7.5 minute map and you can figure it out for yourself. The slope meter makes this ideal for use backcountry skiing and the easy to use adjustable declination makes traveling a breeze. It is a great option for a steal of a price.
