The Blitz Spike Traction Device is Black Diamond's lightest, most packable spikes for fast-and-light missions with the occasional snowy apron or icy patch. There are six stainless steel spikes under the forefoot to grant traction over icy surfaces, and the elastomer harness fits most shoes and hiking boots so you can take it out on a particularly icy day in town.

I purchased these as a lighter weight, smaller set of microspikes for winter trail running. I have the popular brand of full coverage microspikes that everyone uses for hiking, etc, which certainly work fine, but are a bit bulky to stuff in my pockets on a run and overkill for the typical winter run (for reference, I'm in CO). Writing a review since I couldn't find any when I purchased. Mostly they have lived up to expectations, but they were finicky to figure out how to get them to stay on. First time out they kept falling off (and no, they are not too big, my shoe size is the upper limit of the recommended size range). Ended up having to go back to the house and sit down and figure out what was going on. They only stay on my shoes if the front chain is hooked behind the first "nub" of the grips on the bottom of my trail running shoes (arcteryx norvans). Hopefully I'll get a better hang of doing this on the fly, as the goal w/ these was to be able to put them on quickly if you transitioned from a packed dirt road, for example, to a trail that needed spikes, etc. But as is, I have to manipulate them a fair amount to sit just right, which is challenging when you are in winter conditions.... Suggest to BD would be to consider making the front toe strap stretchy like the back heel material. Or at least try this out. Wouldn't mind the few extra grams. Regarding the grip - work as expected. Did not miss the back foot spikes. Solid feel on everything except a road that was covered in a layer of solid ice, but that was to be expected.
