The Men's AR-395a Harness from Arc'teryx is a high-performance piece of gear designed to distribute weight evenly across the entire length of its nylon webbing construction. Thanks to its Warp Strength Technology, it offers optimal comfort and support. Its adjustable leg loops and drop-seat buckle system ensure a secure and snug fit, while four polyurethane gear loops, four ice clipper slots, and a rear haul loop provide plenty of opportunities to store and organize your equipment for the day. This harness is the perfect choice for anyone looking for superior comfort and versatility.

Warp Strength Technology

Warp Strength Technology

Warp Strength Technology is a patented construction process developed by Arc'teryx to create a harness that is both lightweight and durable. This technology involves spreading the load across the entire harness structure, resulting in a more comfortable fit and improved load distribution. The use of this technology in the Arc'teryx AR-395a Harness means that it is able to withstand the rigors of climbing and provide reliable support for the climber. The Warp Strength Technology sets Arc'teryx harnesses apart from other harnesses on the market and is a key feature that climbers look for when choosing their gear.
Four Reversible Gear Loops

Four Reversible Gear Loops

The reversible design of the gear loops allows climbers to choose between having the gear loops facing forward or backward, depending on their preference and the type of climb. This feature also makes it easy to access gear quickly and efficiently while climbing, without having to fumble around with awkwardly positioned gear loops. These gear loops are designed to be flexible and can be positioned wherever they are needed on the harness, providing maximum versatility for different types of climbs.
Self-Locking Buckles

Self-Locking Buckles

Self-locking buckles are a feature of the Arc'teryx AR-395a harness that offer several benefits. These buckles are designed to stay in place once adjusted, eliminating the need for frequent re-adjustment while climbing. The locking mechanism also helps ensure that the harness remains secure during use, reducing the risk of falls or accidents. The buckles are also easy to use, requiring just one hand to release or tighten. This allows climbers to quickly make adjustments while maintaining a secure grip on the rock or other climbing surface. Additionally, the self-locking buckles are made from durable materials that can withstand the wear and tear of regular use.

I've used this harness for a season. My main complaint is around the gear loops for a few reasons: (1) they are tilted forward, which might seem like a good idea as it causes your clipped items to slide towards the front of your harness. In practice for me it means all the carbines are bunched up on top of each other and more difficult to select and access. (2) they are kinda thick, which makes clipping my nut tool leash to them a pain in the butt. I'm not sure what other people's experience is as I'm 6'7" 225 lbs and its difficult to find a harness that is long enough for my size. This one rides up kinda awkwardly, mostly if I'm belaying someone on top rope. Somehow hanging belays feel ok. In general feels like it runs a bit large which is nice if I'm wearing a jacket, but kinda sucks in a tshirt.

I'm about a 30 inch waist so I got the small thinking it would be better if I need to wear it over layers. Unfortunately the small needs to be cinched down completely to marginally fit over just a T-shirt, leaving an uncomfortable overlap in the waistband material. And the leg loops didn't have too much room to be loosened even though I have pretty skinny legs. I've bought a size small for every other brand of harness and always had plenty of room for adjustment. Even with the poor sizing I think it might be super comfortable to hang in since the waist band is so tall, but I suspect less comfortable to carry a heavy rack all day because of how thin the material--the edges are likely to dig in after awhile. Bottom line is I would keep the harness if I only wanted it for sport climbing and maybe ice/mountaineering (due to the low weight) but given the price, poor fit (for me), and the fact I will sometimes be carrying a heavy rack for many hours I'm going to return it for something else.

I was on the cusp of two sizes. The smaller of the two worked out better. The harness itself is great. It is comfortable, low profile, and looks good.

Solid fit and super light weight. Im a 33in waist and all my harnesses proceeding this purchase have been a large in every brand. I bottom out the large in the waist when I want it tight for short white knuckle routes. Back off the waist for comfy multipitch cruisers. Plenty of room on the gear loops for everything and the kitchen sink. Perfect for me.

This harness is great quality and very comfortable. I love how wide the straps are so it gives more surface area on your body. Even though there is basically no padding, the width keeps it comfortable. It is also very light and good looking. Definitely recommend!

Love this harness its lightweight and comfortable for all-day climbing and long routes. Standard Arcteryx quality meaning it's going to hold up to years of use and look good AF while doing it.

Arc'teryx is a climbing first company and it shows in their products. This product is an awesome harness for so many different disciplines of climbing. Although it is at a high price point it is a piece that you never leave at home and can use on ice, on cracks, or clipping bolts. Comfort is great, very adjustable and could hang on it longer than any other harness in my closet. If you need a harness that functions and will last get the Arc'teryx AR-395a

Considering how lightweight this harness is, it still feels incredibly comfortable and durable. It does feel sport climb focused, and I've used it for trad and sport climbing, and both single and multi pitch climbs, and I have nothing bad to say so far. The gear loops initially didnt feel that solid, but they held a dozen cams on them with no problems. If I was doing much hauling or aid climbing, I might look elsewhere, but for everything else, this harness would be tough to beat. I'm 5'10", 175 lbs and the Medium fit perfectly.

In the outdoor industry, there are a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to the difference between products. You've got to ask yourself if the logo is worth double what another company is asking. That being said, every Arcteryx product I've owned is worth every penny. I've used high end Petzl and BD harnesses, and they don't compare to the build, quality, and performance of this. Perfect Stitching, rock solid materials, and it's so light you forget your wearing a harness. I've yet to use the ice clipper slots, but come ice season I expect them to work perfectly. No complaints from me, I'd recommend to anyone.

It's no secret that this harness is one of the best. The most important part is the wrap strength technology, it makes those long multi-pitch climbs with many hanging belays. There are other harnesses from other brands with their own way of distributing weight through the waist. If you want a harness that will cover all you climbing endeavours this is a great one.

I have owned this harness before but it was stolen so I had to buy a new one. I hope those criminals are enjoying a comfortable belay! This is one of the most comfortable, lightweight, and simple harnesses I have ever used- it feels like you're wearing nothing at all. Get one.

Decided to switch to this after an ice climbing try. I have had a few other harnesses prior to this one but I think this might be the last model I own. Its light. It is comfy. It has all the features I am looking for without anything I don't. I there there a more plush models, but I'm a bit thick and just don't need all that. My only issue is that the thigh straps could have a bit more range to match the waist. I'm in a medium (32 jeans) and the waist covers everything from a t-shirt to ice kit, but I am on the maxed side for my thighs, still enough room though. More testing to come.

This has been my go to harness for anything and everything. Wide rigging makes the thing comfortable during a long day climbing and won't rustle your jimmies too hard when you biff it or hang for a while! I have used it anywhere from Ski touring, ice climbing, multi pitch trad, you name it, it eats it up. The only con I have with this harness is the cost (buy once cry once). If the AR395a is a little to spendy I would look into the Edelrid Wing harness (also great).

I love this harness. I have a very skinny build, so its been hard to find a harness that fits really well. It does not have much padding, but it is still pretty comfortable for most belaying and climbing. If I was sitting in it all day I might get one that is more comfortable, but if you want one harness that does everything, this is it.

Took this bad boy ice climbing and was really impressed, fit snug over my pants and coat. The adjustments made it easier to not bunch up my layers. Sturdy and strong.

This harness is the bomb diggity! It is way comfortable and fits perfect (which is usually pretty hard to do with me.) My only complaint is how tangled it can get if you leave it out of its pouch. Although I do love the simplicity of the harness while it still does the job. Arc'teryx blows it out of the water again!

Love this harness. I was looking for a comfortable multi-pitch/alpine rock harness and tried a bunch before spending the cash on this one. It’s worth it. I can easily carry a double rack plus anchor gear on the gear loops. A water bottle, jacket in stuff sack, and emergency gear go on the haul loop. I usually wear my harness on the approach, but it packs small when I carry it in my pack and doesn’t weigh much. I’ve since started climbing alpine ice and it excels there too. It isn’t the most comfortable harness, but I’ll take the weight savings over total comfort, and this is a fairly comfy harness.

This harness is simply put... incredible. For such a lightweight and minimal design the comfort and support that are offered is unreal. I have climbed in the harness for multiitch sport, trad and ice and find that it tackles it all with style. And most of the time I can't really even feel that I am wearing a harness. The ice clipper loops work great with a caritool and the racking options on the harness allow you to carry all of the gear you need for single pitch or shorter mulitpitch climbs. I think that this harness excels primarily in sport climbing but is equally well purposed for someone looking to lighten their load in other areas of climbing. I have not used this harness on any big wall climbs and I think that it wouldn't be exactly what you are looking for while hanging, hauling and aiding. But if you are looking for a harness that will excel in the rest of the climbing world this guy is awesome. I am 6'2" 175lbs and I wear a M.

I got this as a gift, however I was able to try it on and use it for a few routes. The harness is so light and low profile that it moves with your body, and you legitimately FORGET that you're wearing it. This gets a bit weird up on the wall when you need to pat yourself down to make sure you didn't end up on a rogue accidental free solo. Besides the stunning comfort, the gear loops are very nice and easy to hit or pull from in a hurry. I don't ice climb (yet, of course), but I like that it has the ice clipper slots as I can imagine this harness would be great up on some overgrown icicles. I did buy this as a gift, but after trying it out a little the notion of owning one is very tempting. If I do, I'll continue on this review after some heavy use. One last note - the sizing surprised me. I'm a 32 waist and consistently wear medium pants/harnesses in everything I own. However, the small felt like it was made for my body. This may be because it's made partially for ice climbing and wearing over clothes, but in normal warm weather gear the small would be great for me. Probably best to get your normal size, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
