Have you been considering upgrading to a wagon or one of those mega-SUV things? Don’t do it—just install a Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite cargo box. The SkyBox is huge, easy to use, and easy to pop off your car when you don’t need it.

The SkyBox is made with a Carbonite lid that’s tough, lightweight, and 80% recycled. It even has internal lid stiffeners that add strength and make the box open more easily and uniformly. It also opens from both sides of the car for convenience, and installs without tools. I drive a lexus 400h SUV and the rear hatch lifts way up, with a very short roof and factory rails. I did lots of research and if you want to open the back hatch this was the box. when I went to mount it I had to drill two holes as the factory ones were not quite close enough together. I added some weep holes too as my snowboard would be covered in snow, it would melt, then freeze in the bottom of the box overnight... now the water drains out. the box opens from either passenger or driver side for easy access. I have room for one sticker and its going to be the backcountry goat! I have used this over 10 times back and forth for the 3 hour trip to tahoe, and I drive the group of four with all the gear when we head to the trailhead.

dual side entry, goes on and off easy, can put new lock inserts so all your yakima gear is keyed alike. Winner.

Instead of getting a new/bigger car when my new kid was born we just got this box. We can now carry everything needed for road trips on the ample space the box provides. Installation took minutes and couldn't be any easier. Great purchase.

I bought this to replace a Yakima cargo box that I bought 8 years ago. The box would still be serving us well except that my wife didn't shut the box completely and a gust of wind ripped the lid off. Not Yakima's fault obviously. I docked one star because the latch to open the box could be improved. I haven't found a better box and I'm sure this one will last us a long time.

Easy to install on the vehicle and remove when not needed. We use this to reclaim storage lost due to our dog riding in the back of our 4runner. With this box (and some creative packing) we are able to take a family of 5 and a dog camping for week long trips. For our size family a Skybox 18 would be easier to pack, however, the Skybox 16 is a nice balance of form and function for our vehicle.

We bought this box for a long road trip with our Subaru Outback & have not taken it off since! It was great for storing extra items like a crash pad on the trip. It is also super handy for things you do not want in the car like snowshoes or trash. Highly recommend for trips & everyday use.

The Yakima Skybox 16 is the perfect sized cargo box. I was looking for a box that would carry skis/snowboard equipment for up to 5 people and would also have enough room for gear on summer road trips. The Skybox 16 definitely fits the bill for both. It is easy to install and take off, seals perfectly to keep the elements out, is quiet during rides, and comes with locks and two keys. I have it installed on Yakima round bars on a Subaru Outback and it went on easily. The only con that I have for it is that it did substantially affect my gas mileage. I am sure this is the case with any box, especially one of that size.

This is the best for traveling! It is completely sealed so you don't have to worry about water getting inside. It is super easy to load and holds a ton of stuff.

So when it come to cargo boxes size totally matters. I saw the 12 and thought it was way to small so we went with the 16! I'm so glad that we decided to get the bigger box! It's huge! I'm so stoked to use it this winter and not get my car all scratched up! also for camping this summer so we have more room for the dog and other camping essentials! Installation was a breeze if you already have bars on your car (Rav4) and not to mention that the color of the carbonite is super sleek so it doesn't look tacky when it's on your car! the material is way strong and durable. Also did I mention that it is super areo dynamic? so great on gas. There is a hit on MPG but not by that much! Pics are soon to come! I would totally recommend this topper if you are looking to maximize carrying stuff from one place to another!
