I keep this pillow in my car just to have a round in case. Super comfortable and a good size. I know someone else said its too bulky for backpacking but Ive taken it with me on a weekend trip where I'm not hurting for space but could take it on longer trips. It fits right in with my sleeping bag in its compartment. No biggie. I even bought one for my husband and he keeps it in his car and taken it backpacking and camping. Great buy!

Very Comfortable for a smaller pillow. Would not recommend for backpacking due to bulky size, but great for camping!

I've brought this pillow with me on every backpacking trip I've done this summer, and I have to say I'm so glad that I did. Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow is what it needs to be. You can roll this pillow up tight, and it'll compress and take very little room. When you take it out, it will be very flat and not very pillow-ish. After I set up my tent on a trip, I would take the pillow out and unfurl it in my tent. By the time it was time to go to bed, it would be puffed up into a real pillow. It is extremely comfortable to lay your head on, and it feels like a pillow I would use at home. The creature comfort it provides is just too good, and I won't be backpacking without it.

I'm stumped by the overwhelmingly positive reviews. I picked this up after reading a hiking article heralding it as the most comfortable backpacking pillow they've tested. The negative reviews mentioning the lumpiness have it spot on! It's so lumpy it's gross-feeling. I tried fluffing it in the ways other reviewers described, and while it increased the volume, it did nothing to counteract the lumps. Maybe some users' pillows at home have a similarly unpleasant texture, but I'm used to smooth pillows. Absolutely returning it. Also, the medium size packs down to about the size of a football, which is pretty dang big. I wouldn't waste such valuable space for a weird, lumpy product. I did like the moon designs though. :( Alas, the quest for a great backpacking pillow continues!

The pillow's great. It's so comfortable that my boyfriend tries to sneak it from me every night we're camping. I'm forcing him to buy one for himself. It does take up a good chunk of the top of your pack, but it squishes well.

Fill very lumpy and not supportive. STRONG smell of petrochemical. Cant decide kerosene or paint thinner. Nothing designed to go that close to your face should have that strong of fumes.

Listen to the bad reviews. This pillow is lumpy and flat, even given the time to “puff up”. It’ll do in a pinch but I’m going to look for something better. I’m super picky about this stuff but it was almost laughable when I got it and tried to use it.

I used this pillow on a three day bike trip where a pace van met us at each rest point. So glad I bought it; it made recovery a lot less of a concern.

I used this as my only pillow for a 2-week trip that I was living out of a duffel bag. It took up about as much space as my 55 degree sleeping bag, which also packs down pretty small. The memory foam inside is definitely lumpy, but you can't really tell when you are actually sleeping - it can just look/feel a bit odd at first. The moon design is pretty cool. Overall, I'd recommend it, but it would be cool if it could pack down a bit smaller.

I wanted to love this pillow. I tried it out at home before taking it in my backpack. Home tests: It took a LONG time to puff up to its puffy fullness. Very comfy! Nice feel against my face. When I practiced stuffing it, I was not able to get it as small as it arrived, maybe half into its attached stuff-pocket. When I took it backpacking, even though I didn't compress it into it's pocket, it compressed inside my backpack and didn't quite loft up fully by sleep time, but it was comfy enough. When I awoke about halfway through the night, it was compressed from the weight of my head. Flat. Second night, same. I even tried to double it for a bit of cushion by folding it over. Both nights, I had no pillow for half the night. I'm shopping for a new pillow.

These pillows are just what we need for air camping. They’re light, sooo comfy & squish down to nothing. Don’t get impatient, it’s a 24 hour wait till they loft up completely. And don’t put them in the dryer. Just fluff them up every couple hours till they’re nice n puffy. The XL is the size of a regular pillow.

... but it's not as comfy as the listing (or most of the other reviews) would have you believe. It does fold up/roll up pretty small, but not really small; it's about 1/2 size when rolled up, maybe 1/3 of the size. The foam bits inside will expand once you stretch it out, but it take time to reach fullness. And even when fully expanded, the foam bits are not a solid mass, so there will be some flattening of the pillow when using it. It's also a good idea to pull the pillow out first, before you set up your tent, and before you roll out your sleeping pad and bags, giving the foam bits time to fully expand and give you the most "full" feeling. The fabric cover is a soft flannel type material and is comfy against your skin. Mostly comfortable, easy to pack, and a good deal (on sale).

This is the perfect pillow for traveling, camping, backpacking or any activity where you need a compact pillow. It backs down pretty small making it easy to carry. At first glance, the pillow doesnt appear to be that comfortable, but once you open it up and let it expand for a few minutes, the pillow really expands and is quite comfortable.

This pillow has so many uses! I use this pillow on planes, camping and going to friends houses in case they don’t have a second pillow. Yep I’m a snob about that. It really squishes down to be able to travel with and expands to a legitimate pillow. I will probably get another for my family shortly

Nothing like falling asleep on a bunch of moons! I used to have one of these but lost it. I had it for years, and it was so easy to backpack with, or take on the plane. So finally I gave in and got a new one in the small so that it fits perfectly into my sleeping bag, or behind my back at work when sitting, or fitting in a carry-on on plane trips. I recommend getting one of these no matter who you are.

This is the perfect camp pillow. It still feels like a regular pillow, but can be packed into itself. Super lightweight.

Only because my girlfriend kept stealing mine when we went camping. Great pillow for travel, car camping or even if you need that extra comfort for backpacking, it's light and compresses to half the size and enough to be strapped on the top of your pack. A great pillow 10/10.

My initial impressions are awesome. Packs small, obviously not as small as using a pillowcase with clothes you're bringing anyway stuffed in it, but this is an extra piece of gear so expect it take up SOME amount of space. That being said it's about the size of a Nalgene bottle so if you can fit it then it's well worth the extra cubic inches. Seems comfy, Even the small size is substantial.
