I love these leggings for exercise, walking, and under a dress or skirt. I will wear them under jeans and hiking pants. They run true to size and wash up nicely. I don't put mine in the dryer. The charcoal heather is so close to black that I am returning them simply because of the closeness in colors, and I have a pair in black.

It's merino, it's Smartwool, it's a great baselayer. The weight to warmth ratio is awesome, and I don't find the wool to be itchy. It's definitely not cotton or polyester- you notice the wool, but I feel like I got used to the different fabric texture quite quickly. I'm 5'3 on a good day and 135lbs. I bought a size medium. They're definitely longer than I'd like, but they do the job, and I don't care so much that there's a bit of extra fabric at the bottom. (I've gotten quite used to this with outdoor gear brands thinking we're all twiggy folks.) If you're looking for a solid baselayer that will get the job done, you've found it.

Bought these for trekking in Nepal and they were perfect! I wore just these to bed in my 15 degree down bag and was plenty warm even when it was below freezing outside the tent. I wore them under some hiking tights at higher altitudes. Only once in the 14-day trek did they start to feel itchy at all. They are so soft and comfortable! Sizing was great too.

These are so comfortable, I could live in them all winter. I bought these to go under uninsulated (shell) ski pants, but they look good enough to wear under a long sweater or tunic and are comfy enough to wear just around the house. I may need another pair. I bought these in the marlin heather color. It's very pretty and looks as expected. The fit is perfect: Not all bunched up around the ankles even though I'm pretty short, yet they would easily fit a slightly taller person. I haven't worn them more than a few minutes so far, but they are very soft while fitted.

I have the lighter weight ones and these are a great second pair to have for those colder days.

If you’re using as a thermal, these are great. They do run BIG, so definitely size down. I am looking for more of a heavy weight polartec type legging where I do not need to layer, and these would not be best for that.

I bought these for an Arctic kayaking and hiking trip and they kept me super warm under a pair of standard hiking pants. The merino wool was cozy and breathable, and they stayed in place and didn't bunch. I plan to use these for winter in Toronto too.

These are great. I wore them in the snow by themselves with some Patagonia baggies overtop with snow gaiters and it was the perfect combination. Also great for sleeping in. Can be worn casually by themselves or as a base-layer for added warmth. I usually wear a size small in leggings, but I got a medium in these so they would be looser and not constrict my body while hiking. They do pill, but I think that's€™ a small price to pay for the quality.

I was given these leggings as a gift and love them! They fit great and are very warm and cozy! Also great for layering on colder days/adventures, but often times I just wear them by themselves as casual wear.

Bought this for my sister in law. She reports it fits perfectly under ski pants and with ski socks and boots. Fit is true to size, length is above the ankle. Super comfortable and can wear many times without needing to wash!

After reading many reviews and doing my research on baselayers to keep me warm in the cold Michigan winters, I settled on these Smartwool bottoms (for both me and my husband). We've both worn then for two months now, and are disappointed. They stretch out too easily; the material pills; and the waistband, especially on the women's bottoms, gets twisted and is difficult to straighten out. I was hoping that the price tag on these would mean top-quality, but unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I'll keep wearing them, as they do a good job insulating, but next time I'll try another brand.

I wore these one day skiing and they streched out and started to pile all over the pants. I wanted to love, but unfortunately for the price they weren't what I was hoping for.

I wanted to love these so much but after wearing them for 30 minutes I was itching so bad! They are very cute and soft and are probably great if you don't react poorly to wool. I had to send them back.

The reviews about the ridiculous crotch situation are completely accurate. There is excess material and no gusset, which makes for a ridiculously exaggerated camel toe situation. How embarrassing. Love the color and fabric, but would not be able to wear these in public.

This is what she said: Love the weight and feel of the fabric. The waist is a little tighter than I would like it and the rest stretches out a bit more than I would like. Would order again!

I'm normally a Patagonia Capilene underlayer kind of girl but I tried these along with the matching top and was pleasantly surprised. I agree they are a little tight in the hip crotch area but overall the quality is there and I love them.
