If you fish as much as I do, waders are a once or twice a year purchase. Getting the front zip option on a pair of waders like this with the materials, construction, and neoprene booties typically costs twice as much. This is an incredible value for a wader with all these features. Redington comes through again with an unexpectedly high value product built for no-nonsense fly fishermen. Durability and warranty service are an open question which will prove themselves out over time but after trying these waders on over the weekend on a guided trip, the guides raved about the product, the brand and the high quality features. Their observations about comparing it against Simms were that there is a difference in product quality build and feel but that the price difference and product features make up for it.

Redington stepped up their game with the brand new HDZ wader to compete well with the other big names in the fly fishing industry. What makes a great pair of waders? The simple answer is a pair of waders that will keep you dry, warm and fit well to your body so you aren't restricted to fish in any way. A fisherman/fisherwoman needs them to be durable, reliable and able to withstand some abuse and a lot of days on the water. I have had these my waders for about 6 months and have only begun to break them in... The HDZ's have a plethora of pockets for your fly boxes, tippet and other small accessories. There is also a handy waterproof pocket that hangs on the inside (which doesn't annoy or agitate me at all), that you can store your phone in for the must-have pics of fish that no one would believe that you caught if you didn't have proof. Not that it's about that, but with today's day and age we all have our phones at all times and it's good to know it's safe in here. The zipper on these are LEGIT. It is a full waterproof zipper so it can take some time to break in, but it is super solid and allows you to attend to nature fairly easily... when she calls. My only hiccup with these is the bootie size. I am a size 11.5 and wish there was an option for larger feet in these. It's not a game changer, but would be cool to see an option for booties (a la carte') to swap in and out and really nail down the size there.
