I have been wearing REI zipoffs for years, but this year I decided to go for something with more durability. I bought a pair of Kuhl zipoffs in April. Big mistake. They pretty much disintegrated by the end of July after approx 25 days of backpacking. Returned them and bought these Pranas. Can't comment on durability since I have only worn a re days, but I have a few other observations: Fabric has good amount of stretch, which is nice. I appreciate the 33 inch waist (which spares me cramming into a 32" pair or having a 34" drooping off my backside. The cargo pockets are really low on the legs compared to any other pannts I have worn. Also the shorts portion is really, really long compared to other convertibles -- pretty much covering my kneecaps. I realize the low pockets are needed to make room for a climbing harness and in order to drop the cargo pockets, the designers needed to make the shorts longer; but this is definitely not optimal for hiking on hot days -- i.e. the long shorts really cut down on air circulation above the knee. There are a few tiny air holes in the crotch, but I don't think these really help much with cooling. Final downside, which is pretty huge for hikers is that the lower legs don't have side zippers to allow one to remove them while wearing boots. Also the zippers and pulls are quite small which makes them kind of tough to zip on (i.e. to get get both sides of the zipper engaged so you can start zipping).

I found these on sale and ended up buying them. Great, comfy pair of pants. I like the low-key belts built-in and all the pockets. They are true to being water-resistant(spilled on myself a couple of times) and the zip offs work well! Pockets on the side of the legs don't quite fit a newer phone so beware of that if you want your phone secured but have a larger phone. Although it fits with an iPhone 8, it is a tight fit and I'm a bit worried that it will break the zipper after extended use. I feel confident climbing in these pants in that they won't rip as easily in the crotch area. The only room for improvement I would suggest is moving the small belt buckle more to the right side so that it doesn't interfere as much with a climbing harness.

First off, I love these pants, which is a bit of a surprise. I am very picky when it comes to the feel of any fabric that touches my skin. These pants have the feel of well worn jeans or your favorite sweatshirt. I am hardcore on my clothing when I’m out in nature. I’ve scrambled over rocks, low crawled through underbrush, crawled on hands and knees to get pictures, and sludged through ankle and calf deep mud in the middle of a down pour in these pants. So far so good. I was a little fearful that where the zipper is would rub on my skin and irritate me, but it hasn’t. The ability to remove the lower portion of my pants has been invaluable when I’m covered in mud or the sun comes out and I’m getting toasty.

I own many Prana pants but needed the convertible pants post knee surgery. Helped with accessing my brace and icing without taking off the pants.

Great, comfortable, durable, convenient, easy zip on and off and slide over shoes. Double zippered side pockets are very helpful for quick access standing or sitting. Get a little shorter so they dont sag around your shoes when you have the zippers half zipped which is the way I prefer to wear them unless real cold. My original size was 32x32 then I chose a 31x30 for that reason.

I purchased these Prana convertible pants with the intent of losing the lower half when needed, but zipping them back on when the temps start to drop. Great in theory, but I couldn't get the damn lowers back on while I was wearing the shorts. I had to take them off and then zip them back on. I would say these pants frustrated me to the point I doubt I will unzip while out and about. I will either wear them as shorts or wear them as pants. I think the zipper design could be a bit easier? No, I'm not mentally or physically challenged either.

Im exchanging for smaller size as I bought waist 30 (Im a 28/30 waist, 130 lbs woman). 32 works for my 5'10 frame but 34 length might have been better but sold out.

I use this for summit fever and outdoor concerts. Keeps me super dry, looks nice and can be worn in comfort where ever needed. Bonus, start the day on a cold summit in pants, end the day with chicken legs in shorts. Pros: Just get them. They won't rip on rocks while you're climbing, you can wear them to a cold outdoor event. Cons: None.

I have a pair and use them frequently. In December I ordered another pair for a three week trek in Europe since they were an AWESOME price. Got a shipping notice the next day but every time I checked the tracking info it showed that UPS still had not taken the package. I called 5 days after placing the order and was told it would ship that day. Next day...still not in UPS hands. It was getting close to my departure so I called again . The rep, who was great by the way, checked into it and said the package was lost. There were no more in my color or size. Backcountry did not offer a rain check on the price. Bought them at REI day before I left at regular price Total fail on Backcountry’s part in my opinion.

Ok so I've been on this quest for the perfect pant that stretches but doesn't look stretchy for feel too light and this is the one...these pants have the balance that others miss and, and, and, they stay stretchy without losing their fit and falling down all the time....which is what happens with lot's of the other brands. As an added bonus, they will make you the talk of the office, trail, gym, or beach, as everybody will stop you and want to know what type of ants they are and where you got them. Step up....buy these pants now!

These pants were perfect for hitting the canyon at buckhorn wash in the San Rafael Swell. They dried really quickly and weren't too heavy even when soaked. Will definitely be adding more to my drawer

33x34 has been my go to size in these pants for years with no issue. This latest pair are wwwaaayyy too big now, and I know for a fact that I'm not getting smaller. These new ones fit like 34x36 instead of 33x34. Come on Prana! You're better than that. Going to return for a smaller size.

I was on the fence for a long time for these pants, Ive never been a fan of the convertibles. I finally took the plunge and was glad I did! These are super durable, lightweight and breathable. They dry fast when they get wet and are really durable. Would definitely buy again!

I wear these pants for all of my outdoor adventures from backpacking the wind rivers to rock climbing in the desert. I love the convertible feature for days that turn from cold to warm really fast, because you can go from pants to shorts so easily. They also give you the perfect amount of stretch and movement for big moves while climbing. I highly recommend these pants.

I needed a new pair of convertibles for backpacking. Just did 5 days on the AT and these pants were awesome. So glad I bought them. After reading reviews I was nervous they would not fit but the fit was just fine. Big Toe
