I was pretty excited to get this bc I’d been wanting it for a while. But was kind of disappointed when it arrived and I think I will be returning. Pros: very lightweight, nice stretchiness, I like the hood/turtleneck situation. Cons: was hoping it would be longer and softer. It was actually kind of itchy and I felt that I would prefer another layer underneath it which kinda defeats the purpose. But I imagine if you’re looking for something disproportionately warm for its weight, this would fit the bill. Oh also bc it’s supposed to be a base layer it runs pretty small. I ordered a medium and it fit more like a small IMO.

I wanted to love this top as the fit is great and would have been a very versatile piece from all winter activities to casual wear. However I will be returning as I am very sensitive to wool (even merino wool) and it was too itchy. I would love for Patagonia to make this piece in a non-wool material. I gave it 2 stars because if you are sensitive to wool like me you will not be able to wear this top as a base layer.

Can’t get enough of these. I wear them, literally, all the time. I have worn them running, hiking, climbing, sleeping, traveling... in the mountains, at the beach, on planes, at home, in bed, above treeline. Seriously the most versatile piece of clothing I own. I have two of the hooded variety, one in my normal size for layering under pieces in the winter, and one a size up for comfier vibes. I also own one in the crew neck.. just ‘cause. (The photo is the size up from my normal size, the sleeves and torso are looser).

I debated on getting this piece for some time, but I did in early winter in Colorado, and it's been one of my favorite go-to pieces this season. I like that it was warm, soft, lightweight, and the hoody/gaiter design made the piece ultra-functional for everything from walks with the dogs, snowshoeing adventures, and as a balaclava under my ski helmet. I have the R1 hoody, and it is nice for colder days. Put the two together and they function as an amazing layering system. I wish the sleeves were a little longer or had the mitten/thumbhole feature.

This fits very well, not too tight, not too loose. The neck comes up nice and high and with the hood drawn you can wear it as a balaclava. Bought to wear as a baselayer for a spring AT section hike. Definitely am gonna love having this! It's very light and breathes well if you're wearing it to hike in.

I've worn this layer 4 of the 6 days I've owned it? Still smells brand new! On first use, I thought the layer seemed a bit thin and didn't think it would hold up to the other reviews. As soon as you start moving though, this layer heats right up and keeps you warm. It's tight in the torso but a bit looser in the arms which allows for movement without being restrictive. If it's a really low-temp day, I pair this layer with another base layer over it, and it's perfect. Cute, fits well, and I'm excited to see how it holds up this season. The best part is the neck warmer / built-in balaclava style hood -- my favorite feature and mostly why I bought it! Would buy again! Have worn it fat biking, trail running, back country skiing, and even to a pilates class -- will be buying more!

The perfect sweater for nordic tracks, an early hike, the climbing gym, out to dinner, wherever your heart desires, this sweater will get you there. I"ve worn this more than I can count and I've seen no signs of wear. I use it primarily as a base layer for my more active days, but I love that it can easily transition to an on the town sweater. The sizing is mostly true to size, as most base layers are a bit snug, however if you're looking to also use it as a day-to-day sweater, I would bump up a size. I was please with the extra room . I love everything about this sweater, I'm patiently waiting for it to come back into stock so I can order another color. Highly recommend!!

I really, really love this hoody because of how lightweight it is yet how warm--super breathable and never feels wet or clammy even with high exertion Trail running up big hills). The scuba hood protects the face really well from the elements beneath a jacket hood as well as your chin from the zipper = win/win! My only concern is with the durability if it's the layer you're wearing underneath a running hydration pack--seems it may rough the fabric up pretty quickly. Without that type of friction against it = staying in flawless appearance/shape though I do wash it on cold in a garment bag and hang dry. :). I love patagonia--incredible wear value--I have one of these in the crew style and now one hoody. Side note--they're so beautifully made it easily goes with fancy jeans or skirt for out and about to dinner or church or etc. makes me feel like I'm getting "dressed up for the trail"...

This top is incredibly warm, soft and breathable. As expected from the air capilene, it breathes great and allows you to layer appropriately while on the move. My wife wears this whenever we're skiing, hiking, touring, etc.

I've worn this item ~ 10 times since getting it, it is my new go to base layer. It's really warm but also very thin so easy to layer. Love the hood. My only complaint is that the front gets a bit damp if you pull it up over your nose and mouth.. but that's pretty standard.

If you're looking for something to wear on an epic and then to a fancy dinner afterwards, this is the thing! I purchased this about a month ago and didn't take it off for a week. It regulates temperature very well and hasn't started smelling. The material made me nervous that it would snag on things but it got stuck to some Velcro and there are no snags!! I typically am between a large and a medium. For layering purposes I went with a medium, it fits slim. Overall I am very stoked about when I get to put this on. It is comfortable and durable and it has exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this product.
