This shovel is great, it doesn't provide the smoothest surface in pits but the strength and extending handle provide great advantages for moving a lot of snow when the time comes.

While this isn't the lightest shovel on the market, it's the one I choose to carry in my pack because I know I can depend on it when I need to. The extendable handle helps me get leverage if/when I need to dig, and the wide shovel moves more snow.

I am not nearly adventurous enough to have a bunch of cool stories about how I saved a dozen snowmobilers caught in an avalanche or fended off a hunger polar bear with this shovel. I bought it because of the extended handle for better leverage and it will live most of its life in the trunk of my car. I bought this mainly to dig out my car on the occasion that I get stuck in the snow. The shovel folds down nice and compact. It has saved me from calling a tow truck once and thus paid for itself and the feeling of being self sufficient was icing on the cake.
