The pocket feature gets in the way of the top step. It is very difficult to top step in these.

Great for long routes where you won't be aiding all the time - having these etriers pack up into their little bags really keeps down the clutter. If your objective is more than 75% aid, though, I'd opt for something with beefier steps and a spreader bar since these can get uncomfortable during extended aid. Also, top-stepping is pretty tricky (but not impossible!) without a spreader bar, especially if you're not aiding in climbing shoes. These were perfect for the RNWF of Half Dome, but got uncomfortable on the Salathe Wall on El Cap.

Very nice aider. Simple to use and the foot loops are stiff so you don't have to finagle your feet in every time you take them out. I would recommend this to anyone.
